I would suspect a problem with the burner - different lasers are used to burn DVD's and CD's and the CD burning circuit in your burner mayhave developed a fault.

As a precaution check the ribbon cable to the burner - unplug and plug in again at both ends, try another cable if available.

If possible try to burn CD with the drive in another computer.

If all of these fail the burner itself has a problem which software will not fix.

Another suggestion or two. If you changed brand of blank disk, try another. New blank disks may become "too modern" for the burner. The drive may need a firmware update to recognise newly released blank disks.

Is it possible that the disk is being marked "finalised" (closed) before you are trying to burn onto it?

Matt
