Sidewinder mouse conflict with XP

I am very close to actually crying. Since installing my new mouse my PC seems to have a life of its own. Programs are opening and closing by themselves, the letters wesa are typed randomnly in spaces for example this box. I use those letters often for 1st person shooter games, which makes me think that it is actually a conflict with the keyboard. I have the AVG pro anti virus and Tune up utilities that have not recognised a virus. I have downloaded drivers for the mouse and trawled sites to try and get to the problem To no avail. Can someone please help?! Thanks
