power supply prob

i am back online my isp for whatever reason had windowsbbs.com in their spam list and no emails sent to me where coming through. after really giving them you know what it looks like they removed that tag. was able to get a new activation email from here so all looks good.

problem - gateway gt4023e AMD Athlon x2 4000 not booting up. no beeps, no led light on system board and nor light on the power switch. but the psu does spin but nothing regarding the system. put psu on my tester and red lights all over the place. replaced with 2 known good psu's that test green on my tester but when i hock to system nothing happens. no spin of the psu fan nothing. but again when i hock to my tester the psu spins up.

so my thought is probably not worth buying another dps-300ab that was in the machine cuz to me looks like the board is bad. one other thing when i use my post card tester in a pci slot it immediately displays FF no toggling between codes right away FF. manual says catastrophic failure if ff or 00 display immediately.

so looking for one of the experts to agree with me or not so i can tell client machine board dead.

The bad power supply could have taken out the motherboard. This was common with Emachines and HP/Compaqs using the Bestec power supplies. Maybe now that Gateway owns Emachines that feature was was integrated into the Gateways.

and now gateway is own by acer so who knows. i think its a chinese or taiwan company. i think there out to get us so i really dont trust gateway anymore and really a stock that went from 100.00 to 50cents in 5 years is very scary.

so you think my assumption along with the post card, etc is accurate.

Yes, I believe the motherboard took a hit.

I believe this is the motherboard used in that PC.

yep, i agree. tried an antec 500w and this one also doesnt even spin up but when i just plug the psu into my psu tester spins just fine. something definitely shorted out the board. to bad a decent system. i can at least salvage the drive, hopefully the memory and maybe even the processor. guess i might even try and find a new board for it as long as not to expensive.

A non-Gateway motherboard with a new PSU and case and you would be free of Gateway.

I think you should still be able to use your Win XP OEM licence, although you probably have a recovery disk.

You get the same motherboard/psu and you may end up in the same situation.

Try "clearing the CMOS" (or take the CMOS battery out for 30 minutes or so, in fact, try a different or new CMOS battery). Shock treatment, try starting with no RAM installed or the 4 pin CPU power connector disconnected (if it is separate from the main motherboard power connector).

i checked prices on the board being 180.00 and a good psu probably around 80.00 so really not sure if worth it. roughly 300.00 to repair when i have a new dell for 425.00 and its a better machine totally. so being an x accountant doesnt make sense to repair it.

one of the first things i tried was the cmos battery and the pins but no power was given to the board so it didnt even know any difference. had already did the removal of the memory again no power to board so nothing happened even with my other psu's. only thing i didnt do was the 4 pin might try that.
