mouse selecting when hovering (laptop)

I just got a brand new laptop - and when I hover over some buttons with my touchpad - it acts like I have clicked on it.

Another example - even in the middle of a web page it'll start highlighting when I scroll down with the touchpad (as if I had clicked on the page somewhere).

Notes, and things I have tried...

I am positive I am not clicking the button.

I am positive I am not tapping the touchpad. (It will do it with my hands completely off the system.

I have tried changing the folder options settings to double click & single click. No change.

Thanks

My System

dougwyatt - Welcome to the Board

If you have not already done so go to Control Panel > Mouse and check out the settings for the (Synaptics?) touchpad.

If you connect a USB mouse to the laptop do you have the same problem?

Hi,
I was about to suggest sending it back, but saw PeteC's reply. Are there sensitivity settings?

Also look up you model at the manufacturer's website. From manufacturer's websites I have been to, touchpads appear to have quite a few driver updates. Check for driver updates and check the FAQs (there might be model specific FAQs or general FAQs).

Don't hesitate to contact their support service, they should not like to see problems occurring with brand new equipment. Get them to exhaust all avenues before they ask for it to be returned (returning it is no skin off their nose, but it inconveniences you).

Hope you find it is a settings problem.

Matt

It was a sensitivity issue. There isn't a "perfect setting" for me, but it's very much improved - and has a real nice feel.

For archive help :

Using a Synapsis V6.2

Control Panel/Mouse/Device Settings/Settings/Sensitivity
