Googling for ACPI\AWY0001 came up with this ....

http://forums.us.dell.com/supportfor...e=1&format=all

from which
Quote:
My guess is that if you go into the BIOS, you probably see that 'Intel Quick Resume Technology' is enabled under 'Power Management'. Either disable it, else you'll need the Intel QRTD (quick resume technology) driver. Download it from the Dell support site or direct from Intel
If you want the driver Intel, not Dell is the place to go.

I Ron,

I pasted the entire exchange.

ARPC Devices

Hi everyone,

I just bought the HP Pavilion a1340n, it came with Windows XP Media
Center Edition. I reformatted the hard drive and install Windows XP
Professional SP2. I installed all the necessary drivers for this PC
and everything seems to be working okay, but under Device Manager it
shows one device that is "Unknown Device" This Unknown device is
listed under Other Devices category.

Before I installed XP Professional, I wrote down all the listing and
categories of the Device Manager within Windows XP Media Center
Edition.

After I installed XP Professional SP2 I compared the listings under
Device Manager of XP Professional and XP Media Center edition, beside
the one "Unknown device", the listing under XP Professional also
missing the ARPC Devices category which shows under XP Media Center
Edition.

Here is the comparison between Windows XP Professional and XP Media
Center

Windows XP Professional SP2:
? Other Devices
?! Unknown Device
Properties - Location: on PCI standard ISA bridge
Details: ACPI\AWY0001\4&1EC577C0&0

Windows XP Media Center:
- APRC Devices
- MS ArACPI Driver
Properties - Location: on PCI standard ISA bridge
Details: ACPI\AWY0001\4&1EC577C0&0

MS ArPolicy Driver

As you can see from these two listing, the Unknown Device is the MS

ArACPI Drive.

I've been trying for the last 3 days trying to find where I can
download this MS ArACPI Driver. Does anyone know what is this MS
ArACPI Driver and does it supports Windows XP Professional? I also
uninstall/reinstall all the drivers, but nothing helps. So far HP
Support will not help me because they told me that because this PC
came with Windows XP media center and I installed Windows XP
Professional. They only support the original operating system that
came with the PC.

Here is the following hardware components for my PC.

HP Pavilion model a1340n. Inside the computer is untouched.

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz
Memory: 1 Gig Ram

hard drive 250 Gig SATA
DVD: Lightscribe DVD Writer
Graphics: Integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series
Modem: Agere Systems Softmodem
Audio: Realtek High Definition Audio
9-in-1 (4 slot) + 1 USB memory card reader

And again, I have installed all the necessary drivers including the
motherboard chipset driver and compared the Device Manager settings
from XP Media Center and XP Professional SP2 and it is the same except
for those noted above.

Thank you very much in advance.

Mike

Nope, the link just reports an error on the page. type ArACPI into the
search box on the page and it will provide a page with a driver download on
it.

The unknown device could be a piece of software (probably something
with a hook to report home) that is not in use (possible because you
have something else as the default.)

Try getting rid of it with device manager or uninstalling it with the
programme removing device (or CCleaner as that will get rid of duff
shortcuts and other unneeded files.)

Thank you for the link, but I have tried that already. When trying to
download from the soft32 web site, the automatic download does not
start, it shows alternate links which is the Microsoft web site for
windows updates. I have ran several times on MS web sites to updates
all the windows components and also searched the Microsoft web site
for any ACPI drivers but no luck.

Thanks

Mike

Thank you for the tips, I just tried to uninstall it from device
manager, ran the registry cleaner (Tuneup Utilities 2006), reboot the
PC, then it came right back asking to search for the driver for this
new hardware, but when I ran the search to install the driver Device
Manager display "Cannot install this Hardware - The hardware was not
installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software"

Thanks

Mike

Beats me. Try here:

Rather tedious and appears to be a dead end. The format is horrible I had trouble in following who was answering whom.

I think I finally found the culprit. I have a serial label printer and I plugged it in as I had on my old computer. But I did not plug in the power to the unit. So as soon as I find the power supply I will plug it in and load the drivers and see what happens. To be continued.

From what I've read whhe googling for AWY0001, the unknown device has to do with a new feature on Intel motherboards called Intel Quick Resume Technology. There should be a setting in the bios to enable or disable the feature & it is likely set to enabled in your bios. The issue stems from the fact that the driver for this feature is not included on the mb cd & you must download the driver & install it in order to use the feature & have the device recognized by the operating system.

Were it me I would set it to disabled.

Yea!! Thanks a million. That did it. I just disabled it and no more unknown device. That was a good one.

OLD SALTY--Thanks for telling us the solution. I wonder if my suggestion in Post#5

If not, uninstall the unknown device and see what happens the next time you reboot
might have done the same. But now we will not know.

I doubt it, Jim as it seems it was a bios call.

Yeah!
You may want to scour the Intel site for more info re that feature and if desired, locate the driver & use the feature. Though from what I have read it seems to only be of benefit to users of Windows XP Media Center edition. But it may be of benefit to XP pro & home too. I don't ahve a MB on any of my systems that have that feature thus my research stops here!
