I am not too swift on understanding printers quirks. I was nosing around in the System Information today & under Components\Problem Devices this is what I saw:
Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 930C PRINTER
This Device Has a Problem: Code=28 (0x1C)
The drivers for this device are not installed correctly. To install the driver
for this device, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.
Now my printer is working & seems to have no problems, but I do however have it "disabled in msconfig as a startup item." Could having it disabled on start up make System Information say the drivers are not installed. I've looked in device manager & there are no conflicts shown, or stated, & it says this device is working properly. Since I'm not having any problems, do I need to stick my software back in there & re-install the software.
Just wondering why it's saying all of that in System Information, & what it means, because I know I installed the software?

If you were a novice, I would say leave it alone since it's working alright.
But since you're not, you may want to explore into correcting the appearance of something amiss. I would advise setting it active again in msconfig and rebooting. Check its status in the same place you found the information last time.
If it's now listed as being normal, you win. If not, you can look in the Printers Applet of Control Panel to see if you have multiple listings for the printer and if so, delete both of them. Then reboot and go back to the Printers Applet and select to ADD a printer. Windows may have drivers for your printer but if you have the disk it may have later versions. It never hurts to check the HP site prior to going into something like this and get the latest drivers from them. Follow the screen directions for your version of Windows and install the printer.
Even if you don't have multi listings, you can delete the existing and let it install again.
BTW, my printer (Canon) doesn't have a listing in msconfig anywhere. I'm wondering if the item you unchecked wasn't some accessory program rather than the printer proper.
Check out and plan your action and post back if you have any doubts or if something unexpected shows up.
I re-activated in msconfig & re-booted. Still the same thing. I also have only one printer listed in the printers of Control Panel, and as I said before no conflicts showing in Device Manager. On the Printer Port & also the Scanner Port it says "this device is working properly." However, there must be a problem somewhere, however minimal it may be, and it bugs the soup out of me just knowing it's there.
Now am I wrong, or isn't the printer software supposed to have the drivers on it. This is one area that I am not too swift in because I've never had this problem listed in System Information before & I've nosed around in that thing a lot of times looking at this-n-that. If it had been there on my other printer I used to have, I would have noticed it.
Nope this Printer wasn't installed after uninstalling the other one. I installed this one after a fresh re-format.
In looking in Device Manager again on the Driver tab, from what I can glean from it, Microsoft is providing the driver. That seems strange to me, since I installed the Printer Software according to HP instructions when I installed the printer.
Guess it's time to hit the HP site & get some drivers, or re-install the software, if that would do any good. Maybe see what they might have to say regarding this peculiar situation.
BTW, thanks for the compliment about not being a Novice. I sure feel like one sometimes, and I admit that there is a whole lot I don't have a clue about.
You, however, know your stuff pretty darn well on these contraptions.
OK, good enough for now. I found this on the off chance that it applies to you.
I have always received very good treatment from HP support, both during and after warranty. I rate them very high and I'm sure they'll cut right to the heart of this little glitch.
Well, I tried sending HP an e-mail, and never could get the stupid page to work. Every time I hit continue, it would say the page could not be displayed.
I downloaded the drivers for my Printer for the type of port I am using it on & I guess I will go ahead & install them & see what happens.
OK! I installed what I thought was drivers, but as it turns out, what I downloaded was the updated installation Software. I wondered why the file was nearly 8MB's.
After installing what I thought was just drivers, for awhile I thought I was in trouble, when I found two printers were then listed on my computer & still had the same message in System Information. So I figured what the heck & I just un-installed the whole mess & re-installed the updated software & now everything is hunky dorey. System information now says: There are no devices with problems on this machine.
Sort of a round about way of solving it, but it worked.
Still can't figure out why my original software didn't install correctly. Hmmmmmmm! Oh well! I'm back on track, so I will leave it alone.
