Dvd Rom

I have searched and can not find an answer to my question. I have 2 machines with dvd drives. 1 is a dvd-rom and 1 is a dvd/cd-rw. I have bought a new game which says it is a dvd rom. It will work on the dvd-rom machine, but disc does not recognise on the dvd/cd-rw. Why is this and is there something I can do to rectify this?

Go to the website of the DVD/CD-RW manufacturer's website and see if there is a firmware update for your model. I would suspect that the drive cannot read that type of media and lot firmware updates increase the types of media that a drive can read.

Be certain of the drive's model number. If you use the wrong firmware the drive could be become inoperable. Firmware updates are easy to do, the cautious part is using the correct update for your drive. If you want to be absolutely certain of the model number, it will be printed on the label on the drive.
