I installed the ac97 windows update recently, and lost all sound. In trying to rectify the problem, I deleted the drivers. Now I need to re-instal them but having trouble. If they are the correct drivers are u able to assist in getting them back? Also, if they are not the correct drivers, how can I find out what sort of drivers I need, without pulling the box apart to get to the card?

If you're using XP, try this. Right click on my computer>properties>hardware>device manager. Under sound, video and game controllers find your sound card and double click on it. Click on the driver tab and then click on the roll back driver button. I'm not sure if this will work or not if you've uninstalled the old one but it's the easy way out if it works and if not you'll be no worse off than you are now. Worth a try.
How long has it been since you installed the new driver. If it hasn't been too long you could use system restore. Select a date that pre-dates the driver install. This should get you back the way you were too. If these things don't work, post back and we'll have to find some drivers for you.
Also, while you're in device manager, take note as to whether or not it gives you the name of the sound card. I kind of think ac97 is probably it. Seems to me this is an onboard sound chip.
