Can a 3-wire CPU fan be used on an old mobo that only has a 2-pin connector by just not connecting the sensor wire? (Cleaning up an old K6-2 333 machine for someone and the old CPU fan's bearings are shot and really noisy. All I have on hand is a spare 3-wire fan.)
Thanks.

Hi,
Should be OK. Check that the voltages are the same. If the new fan has a higher amperage I would be cautious. I have known older motherboards to overload the fan circuit with only a CPU and system fan connected to the motherboard. I connect additional system (case) fans directly to PSU connectors, not to the motherboard connector.
