Either I'm very stupid or the program writers at Logitech are.
The install directions for their cordless mouse tell you to plug it in with the computer turned off, start the computer, install the software, turn on the wireless dongle and away you go.
Well, when you start the computer, you have no mouse, cursor on screen, but you can't move it.
The autorun starts the install program which you can work through using the keyboard arrows and the enter key. That is until you come to the "I accept the terms of this agreement" radio button which cannot be accessed using the keyboard. At least, not with any combination of keystrokes I can conjure up.
Of course, the mouse is still inoperable at that time because the software cannot be installed without clicking the "I accept" radio button with the mouse which can't be done because the mouse is still inoperable because the software is not installed............Catch 22
Somebody got some experience with this???

Didn't find the information you thought to find? Check out these Similar Threads
Ideally you only use the old mouse until the Logitech software is installed and you have rebooted but you can have more than one mouse installed. Icidentally are you using Mouseware 9.78? That's the latest version obtainable from the web site of course.
My Dell Inspiron has a touchpad alway active (I regret) as well as my Logitech trackball. Sometimes at a different location I use another trackball.
Seems I remember a post not too long ago about OK to have two mice. I'll try msft mouse switch to USB, plug Logitech to PS2, install software, unplug MSFT. Hope for the best.
Would have been nice for Logitech to include this in their install guide.
Will post back with results. Going to check drivers for 9.78 get from site, shut down and do the MSFT mouse switch now.
Thanks for your help.

You solved my problem for which I am very thankful.
Logitech and I can share the "stupid" label. Them for not instructing to leave existing mouse, me for not figuring it out on my own. Especially after reading previous post that said 2 mice ok.
Did this: Switched MSFT mouse to USB port, plugged Logitech into PS2 port, used MSFT mouse to install Logitech software. (latest update) Software installed successfully. Logitech mouse & MSFT mouse both work.
Unplugged MSFT mouse from USB port to free up for other device.
Done!
One downside, new mouse does not have side buttons for back and forward. Set middle wheel for back, lose auto scroll.
Yes you can have more than one ( as you found ) but I have had three. USB, Serial and PS2. One of them has to work at all times. And more than likely it will be the Serial one.
As a suggestion. Do not keep your main mouse as USB. Keep it as either Serial or PS2. And make it the most usefull one.
This kind of a problem is EXACTLY why I still have and ancient but still very usefull Serial Port Mouse hanging around.
One of my machines does not have a PS2 port and USB does not work in DOS or Safe Mode.
They may be old and supposedly useless but Serial Port devices have bail my sorry backside out of trouble more than once.
BTW. I understand from other posts that if you have a 2.4 meg/gig cycle cordless phone it can interfer with cordless devices.
Hey BillyBob: Thanks for the additional info. Another caveat: if you have an optical mouse, it may not work if you boot to other than the OS. No drivers loaded?? I keep an old trackball mouse around for just that problem.
Another couple of points. I also bought a Logitech Cordless Trackman Optical which has 7 buttons but the wheel is operated by one's middle finger which isn't nearly as articulated as one's thumb so it's a right pain. I'm abput to give it to a charity shop.
Also, if you get conflicts when using your trackball via the USB port, get a USB > PS2 port adapter and that will solve it.
I think I've had to learn as much about mice as most cats.

Some devices will go from being USB to PS2 and work. Others won't.
What I think ( and have learned from experience ) is that it is better not but your main pointing device on USB in the first place. Then you will have it ( most of the time ) no matter which OS you go to.
And I found that with a Dual Boot System the PS2 is much more reliable.
As I have said before. I think that the keyboard and mouse do not belong on USB.
That's what it's all about, livin' & leanin', even for the cats.
Thanks to all, never thought such a simple subject would generate so much input/output. Not so simple after all.
PS: This cordless mouse not that much of improvement if any.
Miss the side buttons. On sale at WalMart, I was there, it was there, now it is here. Darn that credit card.
I have an ancient serial port trackball that seems to work on ANY computer, so I keep it handy when I'm fixing someone else's system. I use a Logitech optical trackball with the usb converter to PS2 as was mentioned in a previous post. I never install the software that came with it- I let XP find the drivers for it automatically, and it works fine. You can adjust the settings from Control Panel, Mouse (input devices). I thought I would miss the scroll wheels at first, but now I'm used to it. Optical sure beats periodically cleaning the crud out of the trackball!
Hi Johanna, nice to make your aquaintance, always read your posts with great interest:

You have my vote on that one. What a pain that is. Put optical on each of family's 3 computers for that very reason. Worth every penny. Many times I thought I had a computer problem that turned out to be dirt on the trackball. Took a while before the problem was quickly recognizeable when I was a newbie. (still a newbie in most ways ) Optical mouse should come with every new machine.
I've been meaning to ask, I have been following other member's lead on posting quotes with the underscore, but wondering, why the members don't do this:
You Said: "Optical sure...................."
or
Quote:"..................................."
Don't want to try and change anything that is tried and true by experience, just curious. Just seems like extra work to use the underscore ( I'm all for avoiding work. as I have been placing the lines manually. Is there a shortcut to place a line over and under that I'm not aware of?? A BB rule? Some kind of protocol or tradition? Will I be offending anyone by using quote marks??
Above the reply box is a box with BIU (Bold,Italic,Underscore) and at the bottom right is a "Quote" box. If you click on that it is easy to cut and paste and it puts it in the format you see on the posts. Another neat feature is the "http box" which lets you substitute a word for a long URL, also easy to cut and paste. Play with it. The BBS is very well designed and easy to use, especially compared to some of the other forums, and the people here are outstanding in their willingness to help and research problems. I know I learn something here every day!
