USB and Flash Drive issue

I have a 128MB flash drive. When I plug it into one of the four USB 1.1 ports on my PC, I get an indication that it was recognized. However, it does not show up in either Windows Explorer or My Computer. PC OS is XP, up to date. I can pluf the device into other PCs and it works fine. I can plug other USB devices into the ports on my PC, and they work fine. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Are you sure that the drive is compatible with XP?

Yes, the flash drive device is compatible with XP. The other PCs in the office that I plug into are all XPP (up to date) and it works fine in them.

One thought that came to me - the drive could be hidden - are you using TweakuiXP (XP + SP1 version here )??

There is a facility in that to hide/show drives in Windows Explorer/My Computer under My Computer > Drives

Hi.

Could the drive possibly be a 2.0 and not working in the 1.1.
Just a thought.

Also, if you are using front ports you might try the back ports just in case the front ones are messed up. Lot of that going around right now.

hi i have a similar problem ... mine is a 256 MB flash drive and on any pc at work running win98SE, i have to install a driver. On any machine running winxp , it get recognised as soon as i connect it and it appears in the My Computer and Windows Explorer. However, on one of the pc's running XP, i get the message that new hardward is found but it does not appear anywhere.

The only difference i noticed among this pc and the others is that all the pc's are Intel or Celeron and this pc which is not displaying the drive is AMD, but i do not thing that this has anything to do with the problem!

it is still a mistery for me too
