Going from Cable to Dialup need modem advice

I'm moving into a new house and need to get a new dialup modem,no cable out there. I haven't had a dial connection in a very long time and don't even have a modem installed in my computer. What are the recomendation's for modems? I'm leaning towards an external but don't know what brand is good. ( USR, Zoom or Aopen ) Can I connect it to a router and use ICS for 2 computers, one XP Pro and the other 98se?
It's going to be tough after having a cable connection for so long to go to dialup but want to make the best of it.

I have a USR 5686E (external) on my other PC and it works great. ICS is possible I would let XP be the dail up PC and then share it's connection with the 98 PC. If all you have is 2 PC's then a crossover cable from PC 1 to PC 2 is all you need, maybe someone else will epand more on the router as I don't really know the answer. One drawback you may notice is if both PC's are online and loading webpages at the same time there probably will be a slowdown. Yeah cable, or anything would be nice but I too have no choice but 56k for now.

bobw - I have a USR 5686D I just acquired (Used) and the improvement over my old Diamond Supra Internal is remarkable. Used to connect 28,800 max and since the new installed always 44,000, sometimes 40 and once 38 but haven't had it long. Just learning about it really. I don't feel like such a 2nd class citizen any more altho I wish I had the opportunity for Cable or DSL but I don't and Satellite is out of range of my checkbook, prioritywise.

Seing as how you are changing I would DEFFINTELY go for an Exteranl.

Much easier to set up and as others here have said much better Preformance.

And just info here, but there are routers that have provisions for plugging in external modems.

This example does have it. One DB-9 port for PSTN/ISDN connection .

Something which may help you guys overcome the "Dialup Blues".

I have installed dual monitors. As one page is loading I read what's on the other screen. My nephew has 128k broadband and I can "surf" easily as fast.

Obviously, downloading of files remains the same

.
