wierd sound!

I was playing the Hulk demo game on Windows XP when a high pitched squeal began emanating from my computer; then the computer froze up when I tried to exit. Anyone know what happened here?

Did it sound sorta like a metallic cat doing the wild thing in the parking lot at three in the morning?

If so, don't bet the ranch on this but it sounds to me like either your CPU or Hard drive is about ready to call it a life. Suggest that you back up your hard drive to zip disk or cd or whatever medium that you use.

Computer is practically new Dell Dimension series; don't think it's about to call it quits. Any other suggestions. I have had no other problems.

Hi.

Even with new gear you could have a unit in the computer that has problems. I would run with the case off for a while if you can. If it does it again, try to identify where the sound came from right away.

Another possibility is a bad cpu fan. A fan can make a sound like that very quickly. I suspect the cpu fan because if it slows down enough it would make the cpu overheat and crash the computer.

Keep us informed how you're doing.
