Mainboard problem

I have a Gateway computer that has a Micro Star MS-6312 mainboard in it. The mainboard does not have any p/s2 ports. Everything runs on USB. I have a new power supply in the computer, a new Celeron CPU and new memory 64 megs. When powered up, the Gateway splash screen comes up and says to press F1 to enter BIOS or F9 to restore defaults. The problem is the USB ports are not recognized. For some reason there doesn't seem to be any power to the USB ports. I also have a new keyboard which i have tested and it works fine except on this new mainboard set up. Is it possible that the new board could be bad? This all started when the person who owns the computer lost his video because the cord came loose on the back of the monitor. Thinking it was something to do with the power to the computer he switch the red button on the back of the computer to 230 v and started the computer back up and then his problems started to get worse. Everything is listed that was replaced in the computer. Is there something that has to be done to enable the USB ports to work? Or do i have to send for another mainboard. Amgoing to guess that this is the problem. Toooo much electricity to the components has probablt fried something.

I have replaced everything in the computer. The mainboard, CPU, memory and the hard drive. I put the new mainboard in and the screen comes up and says the CMOS settings are wrong. I would think that the new mainboard would come with default settings that would enable me to access the CMOS. I have to use the USB ports to access the CMOS but they don't work. I'll have to send this board back and try to get another one and see how i make out.......

That is a heck of a fix because if you can't get into the bios, you can't enable USB other than the default which is usually USB recognition dependent on OS. Clearing the CMOS jumper just brings you back to setup defaults and around we go again - never heard of anything like that before but haven't seen much in the way of motherboards without PS2 ports either. Have you perhaps overlooked PS2 pinouts on the motherboard that you can cable?

I am going to contact the company that shipped the mainboard to me and see if i can send it back for a replacement. When i received the mainboard it was not sealed, it had been opened. This may have been a return to the company and then shipped to me...I asked for a new board but this does not look new...

I think you should unplug the puter and move the "Clear CMOS" jumper to do just so. Look in the manual to learn how to do it(Place the the jumper).

Dale442, there are no jumpers on this board of any kind. This is a Gateway component Pt# 4000753 and fits into a flex case. I talked with the company that sent me the mainboard and explained the problem with the mainboard that they sent me and they are sending me another one....we'll see what happens then. I'll keep the site posted as to what happens to this computer problem. This is the first computer that i have worked on that only has USB ports.

OK, the new mainboard came and it started right up with no problems and everything is working just fine. Dale442, there wasn't any jumper on the first board that they sent me but there is a jumper on the new board and you can clear the CMOS with it. The first board has the pins but did not have the little jumper block on it. Someone must have ******* up something on the first board and that is why it didn't work, but the new mainboard is working OK. My problem has been solved..... and the computer is gone.....
