Random Reboot

I currently have lifetime licenses to Stopzilla, Malwarebytes and a continuing license to CA Internet security suite for Antivirus and Firewall. Everytime I try to run a system scan on any of the above, after about 10 minutes, the computer automatically reboots. It happens constantly. After the reboot I get a message that windows has recovered from a serious error. Also, during Internet sessions from either IE,or Netscape or Mozilla, the browsers invariably encouner a problem, or don't respond and crash. After all of these an error report appears, requiring reporting to Microsoft. Is there a virus that could be causing this? Until 5/16, I didn't have this problem. I tried restoring to an earlier date, which was successful, but the problem still exists. I'm running XP Pro SP3.

My System

Hi
Have you tried running any of the above programs while in safe mode?

There are infections that will stop you from running a cleaner.

I would try your CA in safe mode, and if anything is found or you have the same problem go to the Malware and Virus Removal board and follow the instructions from the link marked in red.

Thanks for the reply, however, last night after much trial and error, I found the problem. I was getting numerous errors"Windows has recovered from a serious error" which Microsoft says is a 'blue screen' error; a problem with hardware or drivers. I'm running a PC Chips P23G MB and discovered that there's a problem running 2 double sided RAM chips, which I was doing(2x1GB 533 MHZ). I removed one of the chips and now no more random reboots. I'm considering getting a new MB. Thanks.

Hi
Glad to hear you solved it. I would have never guessed at that being the problem.
