Hi. Are there are any portable antimalware programs? Programs that you can just download with no installation required? I already have Xclean Micro edition but it doesn't work on Vista. Are there any other portable antimalware programs out there? Thanks! :)

    Hi Evan

Well I am blocked from posting in the Malware forum so I am glad you posted here.

I am not supposed to know nuthin bout thar stuff but I struggle by!

Here you go follow the directions below and you will be loaded for BEAR!

    xclean_micro

I have used the below for years. XClean don't even try for the easy ones they seem to go mainly after the most prevalant and worst baddies.

I do not know why it does not have more recognition as XBlock has a very good reputation.

After using it for years as a preclean before AdAware and SpyBot trying to get rid of the worst before even running SpyBot and Adaware. About a year ago I started using it after SpyBot AdAware and Malwarebytes and was impressed that it often found items they had missed.

Keep in mind I almost always run all 3 above back to back before XClean (espically when I know I have a badly infected computer) so it found items all 3 had missed.

No update, when it expires just redownload.

    http://www.xblock.com/download/xclean_micro.exe

No install, run it delete all it finds decline to reboot on each item found, until the program finishes then reboot. Runs well in safe mode and if it finds a lot I usually run it again in Safe mode.

Xclean may run minimized and will pop up a window if it finds anything. If it finds nothing it will exit.

Now for the rest that "can" be portable:

    1. One of the best MalwareBytes AntiMalware http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

    2. SuperAntiSpyware http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

    3. SpyBot 160 http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

    4. SpyWareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html

    5. HazzardShield http://www.orbitech.org/ (requires Netframework) new boy on block but good!

    6. EMCO Malware Destroyer http://www.emco.is/products/malware-destroyer/features.php
(Highly rated by user and professional reviews but not widely known) has worked well for me.

All the above 1-6 after being installed, the working Folder in Program Files can be copied to another computer or USB drive and the program will function fully including updating in Vista and XP.

    Sorry Evan

I forgot to address your XClean_micro on Vista statement!

XClean definately runs on Vista Ultimate. I do ocassionally right at Start of Xclean get a Vista prompt that it is not responding (End or Cancel) chose Cancel and it will continue!

It also may have something to do with User Account Control (UAC) which I turn off while running Malware scans. Additionally it needs to be run as Administrator.

I have not tested it in lower editions of Vista like Home!

Turn off UAC long enough to run it, rt click it and chose Run as Administrator and if you do get a popup that says Not resopnding (end or cancel or end or continue) then do not chose End.

Let me know me know what happens! I would like to know if it is the flavor of Vista or something else that i might be bit by later.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Hey Mike. Thanks alot for the links to the somewhat portable applications. :) I actually already use Spyware Blaster and Spybot Search and Destroy already but I didn't know that the program would still run after copying the programs file folder itself. I tried Xclean micro again on my Vista Ultimate computer and I still got the message that Xclean Micro has stopped working message. :( I tried running it as an administrator, in Windows XP Comatibility mode and clicking cancel when I got the Xclean micro has stopped working message but it just closed everytime with that message. Could UAC be the problem or is it something else?

Xclean Micro is a great program and I often use to help disinfect malware infected computers that are running Windows XP. I just hope that I can get it to run on Vista.

    Hi Evan

Those programs are not somewhat portable they are, they run completely and update completely.

The only one that don't meet the criteria is HazzardShield as it needs NetFramework!

To turn off UAC go into Accounts and uncheck UAC or use the below:

    http://www.tweak-uac.com/download/

    Then try XClean!
