comodo firewall ? comodo antivirus?

hey all, i ran across a thread entitled "comodo firewall?", and felt compelled to add my 1 cent worth for whatever value it might have for anyone else seeking information on the subject, but the thread was over 60 days old and would not allow a "reply", so still feeling a commitment to add my hopefully helpful perspective, here it is in a new and updated thread, with a closing inquiry on comodo's tandem product, "antiviruspyware"...

first off, needing to replace my existing firewall that was expiring soon and going to costware as free firewalls tend to do, i have conducted considerable but not extensive research on what is new and good in firewalls, and free of course...

one of the firewalls that was looking pretty good in recent reports, comodo, also was looking pretty bad in terms of several reported personal experiences, but i noted that those complaints and warnings were NOT so recent... so, sufficiently wary, i proceeded to try out the comodo firewall given that the good reports were very good, and of course, recent... my experience after a week has been flawless installation, easy out of the box setup, excellent performance, and supposedly maximum protection...

below is a link to one of the more significant reports, an "analysis" as they put it, on most major firewalls that might be of help to anyone looking for a new, or better, firewall... any feedback on the analysis (or any other reviews) would be appreciated, altho it seems to appear fairly authoritative...

http://www.matousec.com/projects/win...ts-results.php

now, a warning of my own: many of the complaints that i ran across (which dated back several months the initial offering...) indicated that the problems encountered were severe, severe enough to require os re-installs or some type of restore, so consider yourself aware of that; likely those types of problems were unique to individual setups, or have been resolved by now, but would advise proceeding cautiously if you decide to give it a try...

now, my free antivirus is also expiring soon, so i was considering trying out the comodo product "antiviruspyware", feeling like there might be an advantage to a "tandem" co-product... in checking into this av, i noted several similar drastic complaints and warnings, also dating back months ago, maybe even worse than those of the firewall... so, anyone else tried it RECENTLY or know of any good or bad RECENT experiences with it??????

in retro, thought i should provide a link to the comodo site (what a name ! "commode" suffixed with an 'o'...) in case anyone wanted to check it out...

ALSO! what is up with those popup boxes on the underlined words in posts that surface when you simply, accidentally mouse over them? happened twice, and both times it crashed my browser - does somebody need to work on that, or is the problem unique to my setup??? thanks to firefox and their session manager plugin i did not lose anything, but still, the concept appears helpful, but not at the cost of crashing via an inadvertent pointing device movement...

My own experience with COMODO firewall has been totally pain free. No glitches or abnormal behavior since it was installed. I replaced ZoneAlarm after reading some positive comments about COMODO.

It's more robust than ZA, which may be a bit of a turn off for some n00bs. I would guess that maybe your probs were due to it being new and working out the kinks?

I've not tried their anti-virus tho.

In so far as the underlined words you're seeing that's part of the advertising which is contained on this site. When you mouse over them, you get the option of linking to the sites in the balloon.

I'm not sure, but on my primary machine my custom hosts file block that outgoing connection, so I don't see them at all.

As far as the underlined advertisements go. You don't get them if you are a contributing member and if you are, it can be fixed in the User CP.

Back in the spring, installed an earlier version of Comodo in place of ZA Pro to test it. Used it for about a week.

There were some glitches with it - high CPU usage for example, that I understand have since been resolved. One aspect of Comodo that I like is that their development people are very responsive and the forum is one of the better ones.

Their AV as of now is mediocre.

Regards - Charles
