Internet problem with Kerio

After using Zone Alarm for a few years, I tried Kerio Personal Firewall last April. I liked it so much I bought a license. It took me a few months to realize that ever since Kerio was installed, I would lose internet connectivity every 1-6 days. When this happens, I can't even login to my router. I installed a new NIC with no help. A reboot always fixes the problem. When I lose the internet, disabling Kerio does not help. When I removed Kerio and reinstalled Zone Alarm, I went 21 days without so much as a hiccup. When I reinstalled Kerio, it took 26 hours before I lost my internet.

Sunbelt tech support told me that I had an older version, but the same thing happens after installing the latest version. I like many of the features of Kerio, but I don't enjoy losing my internet connection on a random basis. I'm currently in an e-mail correspondence with tech support, but I'm not overly confident that they'll have an answer.

Has anybody had the same experience with losing internet connectivity using Kerio? Is there an option I missed? Could there be a software conflict (their FAQ does not address this)? I'll give tech support a reasonable amount of time to address my issue before I go back to Zone Alarm. I'm running XP Pro SPII.

I appreciate your comments and/or suggestions.

I just heard from Kerio tech support. They said if I disabled Kerio and my connectivity was not restored, which it was not, then Kerio is not the problem. I understand what they're saying, but why does my internet not go down when Kerio is not installed? I just love PCs

Unless somebody has a brilliant idea, it's back to Zone Alarm.

Zone Alarm has a history of leaving values behind after uninstall. Possible it could be interfering with Kerio. Try the following process to remove Zone Alarm. I would assume you would need Zone Alarm installed to do all of the remove values.

Dennis,
Thanks for your prompt reply. The only file I found left over was zllictbl.dat and the folder of internet logs. I made the registry changes and rebooted. I'll keep my fingers crossed and post back in a few days with my results.

My wife just told me that we lost our internet yesterday. Guess it's back to the drawing board. Any suggestions re: new firewall? Zone Alarm gets my vote unless someone has a compelling argument for something else.

I use Outpost 4 from Agnitum and is now the No1 firewall and has passed all leaktests 100% as stated by PC Flank (www.pcflank.com) - Some knowledge of firewalls would be of help for this particular firewall.

Alternatively, try the firewall from Iolo (www.iolo.com) - This has the looks of ZA and works like what ZA used to be when it was good. I tried this on another PC and works well, passed the Stealth/Exploits but i didn't get round to testing the Leak Test. I would recommend this to beginners/intermediates but even though i recommend it i am exempt if you encounter any problems....the choice you make is entirely your own.

Zykan, thanks for your input. I've never heard of Iolo, but I'll take a look. I've already installed ZoneAlarm Free, but I'm open to new programs. You mentioned that Iolo is like ZA when it was good. Isn't ZA good any more, or just not as good? And what makes it not so good as it was?
