Thanks for the heads up lonny.

A preventative for this sort of malware http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/scriptsentry.asp

ScriptSentry throws up a warning if a script is about to be executed and asks whether to allow it or not.

Well Ive got to say I'm confused.
Yes script trap or script sentry would stop it locally, But I think not
when embedded within a web-page.
I'm waiting for the pro's at spyware info to continue with the thread, I don't just believe whatever is said by people that don't even bother to sign in,

Charles script sentry is what I had till someone here suggested
script trap,(maybe it was Mike?) it will also warn and ask but will keep tract of what you allow, if I remember correctly script sentry once you allow, it allows all of that type.
Script trap aslo when warning lets us scan with an av program, right there and then.

Hey Lonny,

I run sript trap as well on a 9X OS. The link for script trap http://keir.net/scriptrap.html Don't know whether it runs on XP though, the program is dated August 2000.

Went into the sript sentry site to make sure of the types of sripts it flags:

quote
Script Sentry prevents against malicious scripts hidden in ShellScrap (hidden SHS and SHB extensions) files, Word/Excel macro viruses, malicious HTA files, and accidentally run REG files.
end quote

True, it will run a type of scipt once allowed, but you have to allow it.

I'm following the thread at Spyinfo as well.

Regards - Charles

New version??? According to the link, HTAStop 1.0 is over 2 years old. I've had 1.0.003 for a long time.

Hi

Ive about given up worrying about this if ever i did,, I hadnt used hta stop but notice the new version so that is why I posted.
Welshjim there is one more message at spyware info, in case you handt picked it up.

I did notice at SpyBots forum someone mentioned that with hta stop new vesion enabled he couldnt use IE's repair
IT said such and such file was greater that such&such , and couldnt be repaired.
They dont know yet if this would effect windows update.I suppose it would for certian updates.
(I would quote but there forum right now is having problems

Regards
Lonny

Lonny Jones --Thanks for alerting me to the latest post at the spywareinfo. com forum. What worries me about using HTAStop is that it will prevent other programs from running, as you have mentioned, without giving any message about the reason.
