How do you connect to the Internet?

Please indicate how you are connecting to the Internet. This is a multiple choice poll, so please select all that you use.

As for the LAN connection choice, with that I mean a connection at your work place or university, not your 'home' LAN which runs off your ADSL or Cable connection.

I am connected to the internet by a cable modem. But I have a wireless router connected to the modem so I can establish a home LAN.

I was nearly going to click the LAN box, as we use a ADSL modem router with built in wireless.

My guess would be, since you use a cable modem *to connect to your ISP*, you should choose "Cable Modem".

"Wireless ISP" would be for people who connect via some sort of wireless 900 MHz / 2.4 GHz / 5.x MHz device, such as the Motorola Canopy. These devices are typically used in rural locations, where DSL and cable aren't options.

Then again, those people who steal their neighbour's WiFi signal... might also be considered Wireless ISP. Just kidding.

HTH

I don't have:

- Dial-up Modem
- ISDN
- DSL - usually ADSL
- Cable Modem
- FIOS (don't even know what it is)
- Wireless ISP
- Cellular/Mobile broadband
- Satellite

I do have "LAN connection" (no modem, no router, no nothing - only a cable into the socket in the wall) but at home. How do I vote?

That would be Fibre Optic direct to your home (Wikipedia link). GREAT if you can get it!

Well... where does the cabling inside the home lead to? Whom do you pay $$$ to every month to for Internet access? Is there a 12-year-old in the home you can ask for details?

Cheers
Darren

Nope but there's a sandpit outside that I can consult ... ... !

I just plug the cable into the socket ... ... !

The company, "Bredbandsbolaget" was the first in Sweden to offer 100 Mbps (both down and up, I think, possibly only 10 Mbps up). The price is high, SEK 150 a month but it at least includes the phone service. (SEK 150 is approximately USD 20)

This week, a competitor started offering 150 Mbps but I see no need for more than 100 Mbps (for a household). I very rarely get even 50 Mbps but that's not the fault of Bredbandsbolaget but the servers that feed it. In this respect, Microsoft takes the trophy, SP3 for XP (~300 MB) in less than 30 seconds.

I still don't know where to cast my vote but once I do ... ... it will get there quickly.

Christer

Edited: The guys in the sandpit told me that it is optical into the building but cable inside the building. Maybe FIOS would be my closest vote?

I use cable modem and they just doubled the download speed from 6 to 12 whatevers, which makes me very happy.

Have a nice day or evening depending on wherever you are in the world
