Hi,new guy here-hope I'm in the right disc. group-keeping it brief, more details upon request-IE and FF no longer connect to the internet(no home page or site from the address bar)Linksys and Embarq confirm router/modem good-this is hard wire and second PC is a0k.Can ping my modem, but not the internet-With no browser open,I can call for an update to my security apps. and they will download no problem(FF is still the default browser,do not use IE)Complete uninstall of FF with Revo including folder>fresh FF download and install=no connection.Really weird ?,I'm coming to you through Google Chrome(it *****,but it's working)Tried checkdisk/scandisk-ran repair console with XP2 disc-all restore points seem to be corrupted as sys. restore isn't restoring(left to right in three seconds)tried FF safe mode and safe mode>F8 to access and run sys. restore-I'm out of ideas, except for OS reinstall-oh please not again!!

Try resetting IE7.
Goto tools, internet options, then to the
advanced tab and hit reset at the bottom.
Hit reset again.
Hit close and restart IE7.
Thanks,
TT
Thanks texastig-IE back up and running-got anything for FF?I really don't like to use IE because I log a lot of internet time and MS with it's patches and security issues makes me keep it on the bench.I really do appreciate your prompt reply and rectification of this problem-I'm likn' it here already! But please please,I really want my FF back(sorry to whine)
texastig FF is running-man I wish I had posted here before I uninstalled it-all those bookmarks!!Not seeing a way to re import them from Chrome-Well, lets see what happens after a re-boot,and then my wifes user account....can you feel my pain!!??Thanks again, can't believe it with all the tech support time logged-glad it wasn't on my dime!!
texastig-don't want to wear out my welcome already, but is there a way to move those bookmarks from Chrome back to FF.I'm not a file/folder guy,and I've only heard the terms copy and paste. But I think I recall watching a Dell tech copy my bookmarks to a notepad and then moving them to a folder on the desktop in case I wanted to put them on a flashdrive before my pending OS re install.Does this sound doable for me-if so,be gentle as I am very green in this area. But if there's ever anything you want to know about security apps.,I'm pretty good in that department. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out.Sorry Admin.,didn't mean to hijack my own thread

Neither FF or IE will go on the internet, but my Magic Jack phone is working. I'm on a different computer trying to get my laptop working. I even tried hardwiring it to the internet and the browsers still will not go on. I uninstalled and reinstalled both browsers and still they don't work. I haven't been able to restore to a previous time either. I also tried FF safe mode, but it didn't help.
As usual,I couldn't leave well enough alone.Tried to install some free security and a messed up install uninstall has put me back to square one.The reset trick isn't working for me either.I've broken Win this time,I know it.Sys restore was successful, but didn't fix the browsers this time.Tried a fresh install of SP3 from the MS IT site-no go-tried a fresh download of IE7,but same thing, won't connect.Tried a SP3/IE7 uninstall but ran into a file issue that would not allow the uninstall to proceed.Going to try that again and note the file and give it a google.I'm so frustrated that I took the SP3 patch with IE7(but this was before I discovered Firefox and didn't know any better)-I could use this SP2 disk sitting here-not much good now except for new OS install from what I read,I can't use it for a repair install because it will be recognized as an older version than I'm running now(or not running)Chrome saved my butt-but not my wife's,as I didn't realize that the install was "per user account"-so her's is useless.I tried to get Safari,it installs but freezes. My ISP tech says Chrome is the only browser not dependent on Win/IE to operate-looks like he's right-glad I got it when I did,but should have gotten two! If anybody knows how to get Chrome over to a second user account, that would be great-It's sitting on my C: I'm going to keep looking,(days as Chrome is soooo slow)and will post back if I find something-Cheers
I'm still messed up too. Wish I had Chrome. Maybe i can download it on this machine and put it on a flash drive and import it over to get the laptop going. I think it's something to do with my network, but I keep messing with stuff and am probably making things worse. Still no browsers working on laptop.
