MSN Messenger - when I close status shows busy

When I close or sign out - MSN live messenger, it shows my contacts that my status is busy (despite I was showing online when I closed). Girlfriend sat up all last night watching when I would become "unbusy". Needless to say what the offline message said when I signed in this morning.

Thanks if anyone can assist.

Don't know if you have fixed this yet; but, if you just close it will show you as busy or away. Now, if you select "sign out" you should see the icon on the right of the taskbar change to include a circle with a "x". I research the problem you described and can't find a duplicate so I can only assume there is a corrupt file somewhere. A re-install of messenger should fix it (I would uninstall current program first).
