I'm running a realtime program which provides data from one of 4 sources, a specific URL address and 4 alternate IP addresses, all aliases for the URL. The datafeed can switch from the ULS to any of the specific IP addresses, then I looses the real time datafeed, and must switch the application back to the URL.

I've been told by the supplier of the datafeed....

The 4 IP addresses are actually the same ones that the XXX.YYY.com points to. If the datafeed fails when QT switches to one of those IPs, then the problem is your firewall. You have something blocking access when IP address is used for the URL instead of domain name. Please check your firewall and whitelist the 4 IP addresses.

How do I whitelist those IP adresses.

I'm using bellsouth.net as an internet connection and use a Linksys DSL router. I have no other specific firewall installed.

    Thanks for your help.

I highly doubt that there are any firewall issues. What happens when you ping (from a command prompt) the IP addresses that where given to you?

Most definitely NOT a firewall issue. Firewalls in general block access to ports & not to IP.

Perhaps your ISP is blocking these IPs.

    Hi Pilotgal

What I think they meant was to check your Firewall for any issues then white list the IP's.

    Another way to Whitelist is:

    Start IE
    Click Tools-Internet Options-Security-Trusted Sites-Sites.

Add the IP here like the below example that adds the IP for Windowsbbs.com:

    https://67.228.10.245

Add all 3 of your IP's.

Another thing you need to do is check and see if these IP's are blocked from somewhere look here:

    1. Go as above and check Restricted sites and remove anything related to this IP or Site.

    2. Notepad browse to \windows\system32\drivers\etc. Open HOSTS delete any line that relates to this domain.

    example 127.0.0.1 ad.a8.net
In this example the 127.0.0.1 causes ad.a8.net to be blocked.

Also while here you can add the IP's to be approved (WhiteListed) by adding them like the example below for windowsbbs.com

    67.228.10.245 windowsbbs.com

    The above approves the IP.

To get the correct IP's with name:
    Go here http://cqcounter.com/whois/

Put in each IP and get the name. To confirm then put in the name and you should get back the IP!

When you get the IP and name open a line after 127.0.0.1 localhost in the HOSTS file and type them in with a few spaces between the IP and name as in windowsbbs example above!

Otherwise make no changes to the HOSTS file.

    Let me know.

    Mike
