IE7 & FireFox slow on some sites

Hi

I have recently picked up a problem where some sites are very slow (sun dial response times)to display on either IE7 or FireFox. I use XP Pro SP2 under Windows Update (had the latest installed this week) I use NOD32 AV.

I ran scans for Viruses and Malware and found nothing. Attempting to discover the cause I have uninstalled Comodo Firewall, Search and Destroy, Spyware Doctor to no avail.

One of the sites is updated via FTP and although it connects I could not open a folder on the site to transfer data to. The others are updated via FrontPage and none will open when trying to publish.

I have my own site on the same server as a .com domain and it works BUT the others use .co.za domains and only display very sloooooowly. I can access any other site on the internet (including .co.za domains) without any problems.

Strange thing is that all the sites (created by me over time) that do not work are hosted by the same ISP who have tried to help but seem to be giving up as pings work. They also say that they have no problems connecting to these domains - which seems to say that I have a problem on my system.

Am using broadband and have flushed the DNS Resolver Cache, run CCleaner to get rid of all Internet cache and temporary files on my own system. Have run PingPlotter and it seems OK as well.

I just do not understand that if I did have some kind of block in my system it would be so selective and only slow down on one ISP's server?

At my wits end and will appreciate any assistance.

Regards

Tony Randell

Without the names of the sites in question there's not much we can suggest. I'll just go as far as to say that a PING doesn't tell you the whole story. It could very well be that the resources of the server used to host the site(s) are not adequate.

Hi Arie

Sites that take forever to load are www.stabaload.co.za & www.balance-point.co.za . My own site that loads OK is www.pennyroyalsystems.com.

I suppose they will load for you as the ISP says - the problem seems to be mine - but where?

Yup, they do load fine.

Only other suggestion I would have is to delete the contents of IE's cache from a 2nd login on the same PC.

From Windows Explorer, open \ Documents and Settings \ {your problem user ID} \ Local Settings \ Temporary Internet Files and delete the folder Content.IE5.

It will be re-created when you boot again into the user account.

My System

Hi Arie

Created a 2nd login Account but could not find the folder. Then I looked in C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. (Note not using a user account) There was the folder but when I tried to delete it I got a message that INDEX.DAT was in use?

I am getting desparate now I cant update these sites and they are backing up - Is it worth / possible to repair IE7? Or would I have to download the entire system again.

My System

Hi Arie

Ran deep scans on all 3 drives last night for AV, Adware and Spyware - +- 8hrs! Nothing - a relief I suppose! Have reinstalled Comodo Pro Firewall, Spyware Doctor, SpyBot SD and continue to run NOD32.

In desperation, I used my back-up dialup connection and everything works fine. So I must have an ADSL SW or Router setup issue. Have checked the parameters but can see nothing .............

My System

Hi Arie

My ISP has solved the problem!

They had me switch my router to 'Bridged Mode' and then we changed the connection to use Windows authentication.

Now running like greased lightening on all URLs!
