Windows cannot find ...

When I want to open a website I get a message "Windows cannot find http {the web site I am trying to open - this is merely an irritation because the requested site can be seen behind the message panel and then everything works normally. I have Internet and Firefox - makes no difference which is default browser

Hi . This is a long shot, but it may work. It certainly won't harm anything:

Hi, WRB165. Welcome to Windows BBS!

I often run into the same/similar problem as you with my dial-up connection to the Internet.

The problem usually occurs for me while my computer is downloading e-mail messages or any of my anti-malware applications is downloading updates. If I wait for the download to finish, then I can usually connect to web sites.

The problem irritates me too but I have not pursued a solution yet. I'm tempted to disable the automatic updates for all my anti-malware applications but then I would have to remember to manually do so on a regular basis...which would also annoy me. It's a catch-22.
