i have windows xp sp2 installed and the computer has been working well for many months
one week ago i started getting the error
microsoft visual c++ runtime library runtime error
......../waol.exe
this application has requested runtime to close it in an unusual way
the bottom line is that i can no longer start aol. if i go to sign on i get the message....click okay and aol closes and the process repeats. i am using aol 9.0 SE. i have installed no new programs....i use ad-aware plus regularly on the computer...i have the latest antivirus. i have removed aol software....i defragged the disk...i reinstalled.....i found that aol 8.0 did work....but aol 9.0 does not work. i am open to suggestions......how can i fix this
thanks

I would download direct X- update audio drivers and audio drivers. "open my comp. right click C: properties- tools- check now--mark both boxes and restart. I would do this last" and virus scan. check event log.
I had this problem for three weeks, after trying different things and probably reloading AOL about 5 times from scratch, I finally opened up the Task Manager, went to the processes tab and starting ending process/closing one process at a time and restarting AOL. Everytime AOL error'd I would pick another process that I think could be shut down; finally i found the DLLCMD32.exe file and stopped it, AOL opened just fine. Turns out the file is a E-Fax startup icon tray file and was causing a conflict. I went to Startup, Run and ran the MSCONFIG program to go to the windows startup controls. I went to the Startup Tab, looked and found and unchecked that startup file/program [dllcmd32.exe]. Now the file doesn't start when Windows restarts and AOL works. Hope that helps.
