working on a clients emachine that had norton 2005, client downloaded and upgraded to 2006 internet security on a dial-up connection. had to manually remove from the registry all of norton and symantec conflict between license term and the new version. norton uninstall would not work.

trying now to go to symantecs store and redownload on my dsl connection. can get to where the download button is but when i click on it it gives me a page cannot be displayed. tried same link on my machine and it works just fine. have checked all security settings, privacy settings, cookies are totally enabled and security set to medium-low. no pop-up blocker turned on. cannot find any reason why it wont allow me to access the download button. have uninstalled i.e. and reinstalled to no avail. also appears that when trying to go to yahoo mail again the mail page cannot be found.

    any ideas would be appreciated....greg

gghartman--There seems to be more than one problem here.
When you tried the original Norton Uninstall, was it this tool you used
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...56aa30052f4d0&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=
"Page cannot be displayed" can have many causes.
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=326155
Can you provide an example? What is the source of the URL? Clicking on a link? Typing domain name followed by Control+Enter?
Is this happening on all webpages or just some?
    Is the PC running WinXP?

    gghartman,
Are you using IE6, or some other browser? Check to see if you accidentally added it to the adblock list.

Frequently Asked Questions About Page Cannot Be Displayed Errors in Internet Explorer = http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/support/ie/ie5/topics/pcbd.asp

If you are a SpyBotS&D user = In S&D check to make sure under tool/ie tweaks "Lock IE start page setting against user changes (current user)" is NOT checked.

    Also See = http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/canotofd.htm

You might also empty your temp internet files folder, and then go to: tools/ internet options/ general/ temp internet files/ settings/check for newest version of pages(either automatic or every time)/ok/ok.
    .... And then tools/ io/ security/trusted sites/sites/add that url/ok/apply/ok, and then tools/ io/ security/trusted sites/custom level/low/ok/apply/ok , and then tools/ io/privacy/add that url/allow/ok/apply/ok
Also try tools/internet options/ clear files and cookies/ok/ok. If that doesn't fix it, try tools/internet options/advanced/scroll down to "security" and uncheck the first 3 boxes/apply/ok/ok , then
Click Start, click Run, type cmd and click OK, at the command prompt type the following commmand = ipconfig /flushdns and then hit the Enter key. Now restart the computer and see if the problem is resolved.

and then reboot your pc, then scan for spyware and/or trojan infestation.

Check PC date and time. Double click to open and make sure the time zone and daylight savings settings are also correct . Some sites block access when you have incorrect time settings.

Also, you might want to go to tools/internet options/settings - and move the slider for the amount of disk space to use for the temp internet files folder to the right some, then hit OK/OK. This might reqire a restart for the new setting to take effect, but at least it may be worth a try.
