office outlook 2002 duplicate folders

Somehow I seem to have created duplicate (simultaneous) folders in my outlook 2002:
+Archive Folders
+Personal Folders
+Outlook Today [Personal Folders]
Unfortunately the file contents under <Personal Folders> and <Outlook Today [Personal Folders]> are NOT the same. One folder has become completely empty. Trying to restore from older backed up .pst as import is no solution. It will not restore the empty folder!
Any suggestions before I give up, delete and restore? I don't know how far back this duplication occurred. TIA

Thanks. Just printed it out, and it seems simple and straightforward enough. Will run through the workaround.
I have been using Outlook through several versions beginning with Win95 and haven't encountered this before.
