Web site images don't show...

Hey!, here's another good one for you, and, hope you can help me solve it.

OK! Up until june 6, or thereabout, I was able to create and modify .gif & .jpg images for my web pages without a hitch. I have always used Paint Shop Pro (PSP) 6, then 7, now 8 to do all of my image preparation... All was honky-dory. Then I had a massive hard drive crash which needed a replacement drive.

Back from the shop, my troubles begin. I have gathered all sorts of forensic evidence that points to Win XP interfering with image processing. I have re-installed and reinstalled my PSP, to no avail! Tried all manner of editing and re-editing old and new images, etc. etc. nix!

I have taken old, pre-6 June images that used to show up before, modified them, saved them, uploaded them, BOOM! they give that little x box in IE6 and the broken doc in Netscape (7.02). A request to "View Image," the one that is supposed to be there, gives the following error message: "The image (image name and path) cannot be displayed because it contains errors." !WoW!... Ain't that a tar! Firewall removal does nothing to help the problem go away! I don't have a pop-up/ad blocker and scoured MS and the folks at Jasc Software (creators of PSP) and nobody seems to be able to resolve this situation. Jasc are of the opinion that the interference comes from WinXP and I feel the same way. MS is not convinceable...

Most confusing is that I can see the images off of my hard drive good as gold, with my browsers, but, not after they are loaded onto the web sites??? As a last desperate attempt to fullfill a request for completion by one of my clients, I used my wife's computer, WinMe, and scanned and edited a new image and "BINGO!" the uploaded image shows up... I'm at my wits end! I do not want to scrap WinXP, having gotten it to work so well except for this problem. At least I'll be able to fullfill my obligation for Monday, even if deadlined for today. Whew!

Any suggestions, comments, on how to get my PSP software to work with WinXP? Is there a tweak I can apply to WinXP to make it behave when using PSP?
{edit 21:56}
OH My! It gets worse. I saved a banner from an existing web site first to a directory on my computer via copy and paste and then to my web site using an FTP client and then called for it from my web page on the site. Guess what?... It didn't show up!!! I got the error message per above!!! AAArrrrrrrggggggghhhhh....

x boxes Instead of Images

I hope this helps but I had the same problem and the only way I can get around all the x's Is to disable my norton Internet security and then when I am done I enable It again. When I open outlook mail I get no pictures...blanks, etc., but when I disable norton Internet Security and press refresh....PRESTO!!!! I don't worry about disabling this for awhile because I have Norton Antivirus Auto Protect enabled all the time. Hope this helps. Bev

Thanks for the try Bev,

I don't have Norton Internet security. So, ... Argh, I wish it was that easy though.

Yes, your post is long, convoluted and unclear as to what the actual issue is at hand and thus your query.

Can you perhaps sum up the relative point and repost your question, please?

No I would not recompose all of that . Seems to be several seperate issues here

In addition to what Bruce said.

Why don't you post the most important and troublesome first.

And after it is fixed move to the next.

Let us handle them 1 at a time.

Thanks guys, I'm sorry. I get a bit panicky when my computer starts to malfunction. I hope this will help someone to help me...

.gif images do not show when looked at from the internet, but show up ok when looked at from my hard drive.
.jpg images are garbled when looked at from the internet, but show up ok when looked at from my hard drive.

My firewall is disabled so it’s not causing the problem and
I do not have a pop up/ad blocker that mihgt cause the problem.

Microsoft blames the PSP software, from Jasc and
Jasc blames interference from WinXP

It worked fine until June 6. I had to have WinXP re-installed after a hard drive crash

The problem showed up after re-install.

Is there any possibility of tweaking WinXP to remove the “interferance” and avoid another complete re-install of WinXP?

OK!

Looked at how offline, using My Computer or some other graphics display/viewer program?

If so bring up Internet explorer and instead of browsing the internet browse to one of these files and open it.

Post the results of this test.

If there is a possiblity tha PSP is the problem then it should be uninstalled untill this is fixed. Then reinstall it.

Ok, I see where this is heading, I think,

Well, if i browse the web pages with the images on my computer, they show up ok
If I browse the the web pages with the images on the web site, they don't show up...
Both Netscape 7.02 and IE 6.0

Thanks for looking at this for me (sheepishly) ...

Hi, Busy ~

Can you post the link so I can attempt to reproduce what you are experiencing? Point to specific images if possible.

Busy

I want to know if you can use IE or Nutscrape to browse to an image on your computer locally not on the www.

Will it display them properly?

Yes I can, and the images show up properly.
I uninstalled my Jasc PSP software from my computer.

I go to http://guidesottawa.ca/PagePourBadges.html and the images fail to show.

When I do a View image in Netscape, I get a message instead of the image. It says: "The image (image name and path) cannot be displayed because it contains errors."

In IE, I get the little box with an x in it.

Thanks Mike. Thanks Bruce, whenever you get to this.
