I went to the link you suggested, however none of the suggestions helped, as I have all of the updates & settings, etc. As well, I am not geting any error messages that I can discern because I'm not getting a particular error number or message that states it's anscripting erro, just that a long running script is taking place and to either continue or stop the scripting. I did not see anything that addressed this specifically in the troubleshooting. I use IE & Mozilla firefox both, and it happens in both. I can hear a constant clicking from my computer as this message presents and it prevents my being able to continue in wha I am doing, even when I respond to stop the scripting or to continue, etc.

Are you using IE9 and the latest version of Firefox?

Does this happen with every website you visit or only certain ones?

Have you tried starting IE with no add-ons to see if the problem persists?

    Yes.

It seems to be whatever website I visit, In particular when I am in my Yahoo Email & gmail as well.

Not to resolve the problem of the long running script, however I have at other times in the past; however I am not sure how to start IE w/out add-ons, it's been a long time since I've dealt with add-ons because I normally do not accept them.

To run IE with no add-ons click Start< Run and type iexplore.exe -extoff and hit enter.

Let me know if the issue still occurs with IE9 running with no add-ons after you run the Microsoft Fix It that LJ linked to.

I disabled all of the add-ons, Evan; however the long-running scripts continue.

Also, Ell Jay, I have not notice any thing that gives me an option to "Fixit" when I get the messages regarding long runining script;. I will look for that if/when it happens again.

Did you run the Microsoft Fixit tool from the link that LJ posted?

No - I never seen the 'Fixit' option whereas I could scroll down & select it. I would if the option presented, but it did not.

OK, I've done this. I'll give it a little time to see if it corrects the problem, and if so, I will mark this thread as resolved.

    ELL JAY 50,
I have IE9 - the links you're giving, are they for IE9? I tried the link in the previous response from Evan Omo, which may have fixed the problem because although the script still seems to be long running ( I can hear it) & interfers with my being able to use my computer, I have NOT received any messages regarding the long running script again. Because of that I have tried the link you have suggested, the icon presents, but other than that the page is blank with no words, instructions or anything. I clicked on both links you have in your response & the 2nd link tells me it's for IE 4 - 8. I do appreciate your efforts in attempting to assist me with this problem. I am going to mark this thread as resolved.

Thank you both, Evan Omo & Ell Jay 50.

What exactly are you hearing? Would you like to troubleshoot this issue further or are you satisfied with how IE9 is working now?

I hear my computer running. I do not want to do further troubleshooting at this time, I am satisfied with the IE9; the long-running script message isn't presenting, & the script doesn't run as long. Thanks.

I continue to have issues with long running scripts after trying the all sugessions given. These long running scriptures interfer with my being able to do anything because when they are running, I cannot even type anything or utilize the page or site until the scripts stop running.
What I hear is the computer running as if it is processing information, searching, thinking or whatever.

What should you do about Internet Explorer script errors?

This information applies to Windows Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Internet Explorer 8.

In most cases, you can ignore them. Script error messages are displayed by Internet Explorer when there is a problem with the JavaScript or VBScript code on the website you are viewing. Occasionally a script error can be caused by an error in downloading a webpage, but more often it is an error in the webpage itself.
To be sure it isn't an error in downloading, refresh the webpage (click the Refresh Current Page button). If the error persists, and you are not a developer testing a website, you should click No to ignore the error.

To avoid script errors in the future, you can turn off script debugging and notifications in Internet Explorer.

Turn off script debugging and notifications in Internet Explorer

Script error debugging and notifications are turned off by default. If they have been turned on, follow these steps to turn them off again.

    1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button [IMG], and then clicking Internet Explorer.
    2. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
    3. Click the Advanced tab, select the Disable script debugging Internet Explorer) and Disable script debugging (Other) check boxes.
    4. Clear the Display a notification about every script error check box, and then click OK.

Only click on the two Bold links Turn off script debugging and notifications in Internet Explorer.
