Google Earth has turned blue

For some reason, Google Earth has lost all its buildings and terrain features on my computer. All I get is a blue "ground plane" with streets. It doesn't even show the coastlines. I've removed and downloaded a new program twice but it's still the same.

My wife's netbook has all the same settings for Google Earth as my computer does and hers still shows the features.

Any ideas?

Have you been into TOOLS->OPTIONS and played around with the settings?

Did you make ANY type of change to your pc like a new video card or new video drivers?

Steve:

The only thing that happened was a melt-down in Win XP that made a complete re-build of all software necessary, about 4 months ago. This problem with GE is more recent, and I can't think of anything I've done that would trigger it.

Uninstall and reinstall? See if it changes.

I've done that twice, Bill, with the same result both times. I'm going to do a more detailed comparison of my computer's settings with those on my wife's net-book today. Maybe I'll find the root of the problem.

Google's "Help" system has been no help at all.

On edit:

Everything on my box is the same as my wife's computer except mine shows a "Creation Date" of two days ago and hers is back in Nov 2011. Maybe Google did something odd, like requiring a subscription instead if it being a freebie?

More info later, maybe.

A follow-up - I tried to get to Google Earth's help forum and got a message that Google no longer supports "Older Windows versions". Since DW's computer has not had a Google Earth update since Nov 2011, that may be why hers still plays.

I'll try cross loading the version from her computer to mine and see if I get the functionality back.

Thanks MrBill. Google Earth went a bit funny (peculiar not humorous) on my Vista notebook. I have installed an older version from that site & it is working again. You are now my hero!

"Please mark your thread as 'Resolved'."

I would if I had started it in the first place. Either way, the thread has resolved a problem for me, for which I am grateful.

Since Bill's advice worked for Dave, I'll mark the thread "Resolved". I've been so busy the last few weeks, I never got back to the problem.
