Msft did me in

On July 12,2008 MSFT released a security up date. I learned several lesons from this event., First I will never allow then to automatically update my PC. I'll do it manually after seeing what the update is for and after waiting a few days from release to get user acceptance. Second this update has crippled milions of PCs around the world. Its effect is to prevent access to the internet. I found this out after a frustrating day trouble shooting by calling my ISP who alerted me to the problem. I called MSFT tech support to find that although I would be connected to the next available support techy it was an estimated 3 hour wait. Obviously this is unacceptable and since I could not access the internet I could net get MSFT support from that source. Soooo. I then called tech support from Dell but that also resulted in frustration. Has any one a solution????

???

Well did you get this update uninstalled?

What update is it? Others may wish to avoid it!

If you can not uninstall did you try a System Restore?

Mike

It is not the first time that a Microsoft Update "breaks" Zone Alarm's firewall, and I will tell you it won't be the last. That says more about ZA then it does about Microsoft. I dumped ZA YEARS (5-10) ago because of this.

The update in question was downloaded on 12 July 2008. I can find no way to delete it. In my case I did not have a system restore point available. I finally was able to restore my PC with the help of Dell techniocal support. It took about 3 hours and the problem was solved by installing FireFox 3 . It was apparent that the problem of these downloads destroyed my IE 7.0. To get to the result we had to uninstall IE 7.0 first and then download FF3. Frankly I was gpoing to shift to FireFox anyhow so I got two jobs done for 1. Thanks
IO checked MSFT tech support again this morning-still jammed with waiting time for connection still an estimated 3 hours.
