I am starting to get "Mozilla Firefox (not responding)" messages at the upper top left of my screen and the browser will freeze up for about a minute. Is this an indication of an AV Security Suite virus embedded in my browser?

The information you give does not give sufficient clues. Should you have a problem with a virus, you should informed by your program, whatever it is.
And, you don't tell us a thing about your operating system, or the age of your machine, nor the version of Firefox you use (is it the same version which was working fine before?).
My computer is old, and 512 MB memory does not cut it. I, never, saw, a not responding message, but it takes over a minute to be operational. In fact, I, often turn on to see how the task manager is doing, looking at firefox.exe

I have update my computer information and the FireFox version I'm using is 3.6.6 which is the same version I have on my laptop and that's not giving me any problems like this.

I don't get it. Did you update Firefox, or something else in the computer. And, from what to what. It is very confusing the way you put it.

Is everything running normal on the computer ? It could be many things besides virus.

You have also not indicated clearly what you mean by AV Security Suite virus embedded in my browser ?

Try running chkdsk /f on the drives, emptying temp files & browser cache. See if it makes any difference.

I'm getting similar behaviour with IE under Windows 7 x64 running in a not so powerful laptop. But certainly, no delays of a minute. Just a couple of seconds.

In my case, the delays causing the 'not responding' message seem to occur because of the firewall (COMODO Internet Security on this machine) or maybe Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. It could be any other security program of course. They take some short time to check the internet flow coming through and that throws off the browser's expected response time.

If, for you, it also takes a minute with IE, I'd check the disk, defrag it, virus-check, and see what might be trying to access the internet in the background.

If IE is fine, it might be some Firefox plugin(s) trying to get online for update and is fighting it out with the firewall.
Clean the caches as suggested above and start Firefox without plugins to see what happens.
