Unhappy

"Unresponsive Script" message keeps popping up

Can someone please tell me how to stop this unintelligible message box from popping up on my screen every five to 10 minutes or so (Firefox 3.5.3) regardless of whether FF is open on screen or minimized?

Here is a screenshot: http://www.filedropper.com/unresponsivescript

I check the "Don't ask me again." box every time it appears, and then click "Stop the script" every time. I go through this many times in a session, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Tony,

Thanks! I've deleted the Firefox cache. I'll report back in a day or two.

Let us know of the results. I used to have the problem, but it seemed to have gone away. I have no idea what I did differently. I have set to delete the Cache on exit in my Privacy| Private Data settings.

Westside,

Thanks, that sounds like a good suggestion and I'd like to set it, but I don't see anything about Privacy Data Settings or caches in the Privacy section of Tools > Options. Am I missing it?

Frank
Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: Use Custom Settings for History > checkmark: Clear History when FF closes > Settings button > select what is to be cleared at closing.

And while there, uncheck "accept 3rd party cookies".

The bottom part of Privacy is called: Private Data. Click on the Settings button to see all options. Place a check mark as needed. This is for 3.0.14.
I accept third party cookies, as it may be necessary, at times.
I routinely remove all cookies, with another setting. I have a check mark to clear almost everything. Saved Passwords and Authenticated Sessions are unchecked.

Tony and Westside... got them! Thanks!

These are good settings to have, but they're hard to find.

BTW, I've had none of those pop-ups since I cleared the FF cache. Will get back again after another day or two.

Frank,
some settings may hard to find, but as a rule of thumb, I take a look at all preferences/options in a new program. I may not understand everything, but it helps, if changes are needed. I, never use a scorched earth technique. I, rather put up with something than make a mess.

Westside,

Good advice. I usually try to do that, but as you might expect from a novice with a program that's new to him, not everything makes sense, and when unintelligible items are met up with, the feeling of "I'm never going to understand this -- why try?" takes over, and the existence of those options are quickly forgotten. Thanks to people like you and TonyT, that knowledge can be retrieved if and when needed.

Good news: after running Firefox at full bore all day, that pesky script message has NOT returned. Looks like the prescribed antidote worked! I'll be sure to get back if it the problem recurs, but for now I'm going to mark this thread as "Resolved."
