yahoo mail used to load OK

It used to load OK, every day, no problems. Yesterday I got a message saying Yahoo mail cannot load. I tried clearing cache and cookies but to no avail. Tried IE but no joy there either. Tried Firefox in safe mode still no joy. Other web sites are fine, as is googlemail. If I try the classic view I get text on the browser window but no graphics and if I click on a message, there is no text there. I have no idea what has changed between yesterday and today. I even tried system restore but it said nothing had changed. After two hours doing chat with Yahoo they have failed to help in any way. Can anyone please help me? Thanks Colin

I have my Yahoo mail set up in Mozilla Thunderbird, aided by freePOPs, and I did fine. Now, using Google Chrome I had to log in. I noticed that the login required to the entire account, i.e. username@yahoo.com, and not just the username. After entering my password, I was right into mail. The login can be valid for up to two weeks.

I've noticed changes in the way free Yahoo mail is working recently in a Web browser. Slowness, login errors, etc. And not caused by anything on my end. I believe they may be in the process of reorganizing their free mail system.

But I have no problems using my free Yahoo mail account in Thunderbird with freepops (Linux) or ypops (Windows).

I am of the opinion that Yahoo may not be giving the free mail service much attention so as to entice users to upgrade to their paid services.

Thanks for that. Maybe I will try Thunderbird (when I find out what it is) and try ypops (againwhen I find what they are). Doesn't really solve the problem but it if means I can read my emails then I willproceed.

Just installed Thunderbird. That was easy! Seems to look like outlook express except it works.

Ypops is a free program that allows users to access a free Yahoo email account using their favorite email program, ie Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etc.

Yahoo free email does not allow pop access, thus must use a program like ypops to intervene.

Try Yahoo!Mail Notifier.
It is a Firefox add-on, which has worked well for me. Go to View|Toolbars|Customize to drag and drop the Yahoo!Mail Notifier icon (it looks like an envelope.

Thanks. After reading the instructions a second time, I now have Thunderbird running with Webmail and ypops so I can now access my web mail. I will have a look at Yahoo Mail Notifier and install that.

Thank you to all who assisted me on this quest!
