Hi All, ......... Can someone help me get rid of an annoying web site address that keeps coming up unasked for. I recently installed Adblock Plus but my attempts to prevent the site's address from appearing have failed, probably because I haven't used the Adblock program correctly. The site address is www.google-analytics.com. It is something that as far as I know, I never used. Any other methods to prevent its appearance will also be welcome. Thank you.

I try to go to that site and FF won't let me because I have an entry in my HOSTS file "127.0.0.1 www.google-analytics.com #[Google Analytics]"

I see some things from google in my Adblock Plus but none of them are the mentioned site.

Do you use a HOSTS file from somewhere other than the windows default? I use the one from MVP. It is over 800kb file where windows default is 1kb.

Bmoore1129.............. The strange thing is, and the reason I got involved with Adblock Plus is that the Google address is a line in my HOSTS file. Yet, it keeps appearing when I try bringing up any site address. What is MVP? From its size I assume that it must be a generalized listing of undesirable (?) addresses. There must be some way of not seeing the Google site and I was hoping that the Firefox add on could help. Thank you for your reply.

    P. S. As I concluded typing this reply, there it is at the bottom of my screen: "Transferring data from www.google-analytics.com... "

You may have the google redirecting spyware on your laptop. If you post in that forum there are some experts who can help with getting rid of it. I seem to remember something while reading post titles recently.

WindowsBBS consists of several forums. One of these forums is called "Malware and Virus Removal.

If you post on that forum you can get help with removing bad stuff from your computer like spyware, malware etc.. It can also be determined if you have no bad stuff.

I noticed in that forum several posts that talk about google redirects and it sounds like you are being redirected to the google analytical address when you enter the address of other sites you wish to go to.

Clearer or did I make it worse?

Bmoore1129, ............. Clearer? Absolutely. Thank you for your replies. I must admit that I had considered submitting the question to the Malware Forum but held off. Now I will use your suggestion and see if the experts at that forum can provide some assistance in blocking the Google-Analytics annoyance.

Bmoore1129, .............. Bill, my apology for the long delay in getting back to you. The "Here" link in your last Post resulted in a "File not found screen." But since Aire suggested not using Hosts, I wasn't too concerned. As you may know I'm now back to the Malware and Virus Removal forum with the Google-Analytics problem at his recommendation.

Since I removed Firefox (several times) from my computer I lost the information you provided on Adblock Plus. I may be getting back to you. Thank you for your continued interest.
