Okay I use T-Bird to receive and send my e-mail from Comcast. I tried to also add my GMail account to T-Bird. I tried following directions on T-Bird about adding Gmail but did something wrong. I did the following,
    # Open Thunderbird, go to "Tools -> Account Settings ", click the "Add Account" button, select "Email Account" and click "Next ".
    # Enter your name in the "Your Name:" field, and enter your entire Gmail address (yourname@gmail.com) in the "Email Address:" field. Click the "Next" button.
    # Select "POP" as the account type and enter pop.gmail.com in the "Incoming Server" field.
I got an error; An error occured with the POP3 Mail server.Mail server pop.gmail.com responded; is what I got after trying to get my mail. I noticed that while I see my Comcast "Local Folders" on the left, I did not see a second set of folders like Inbox,Unsent,Drafts etc for Gmail also on the left. Could someone show me the errors of my ways ;)

    Thanks All,
    ~Paul

There won't be a second set of folders....

Did you look in GMAIL.com site for instructions?

FINI!!!!! I did it and was able to figure it out. I know that lots of times the directions are in plain english Steve but sometimes I'm not sure of the wording. I may not understand it, but in this case i was able to figure it out. Thank you Steve for the "push" :))

Good! In case it is not clear to others, Google has an excellent description .
And, it is best to uncheck the Global setting box, and keep all accounts separate, rather than relying to the Local folders, where all accounts will be mixed.

    FYI

gMail is a great solution if have a laptop. As you know, most ISPs require you to have one of their IP addresses to use the ISP SMTP server (send mail) Thus when mobile with a laptop you can receive mail (POP) but you cannot send mail. You are forced to use the ISP Web mail in such cases.

However, if have a gMail account setup in TB you can add gMail as a second SMTP server and when mobile, you can POP your ISP mail and send via gMail for the ISP account. When mobile, just change the SMTP server for the account to gMail via Account Settings.

There's also a cool extention I use called SMTPSelect, to toggle between send mail servers.

All the answers are given in the link which I provided before. For those who do not want to read the entire thing, it is IMAP port 993, and SSL to receive, and port 587, and TLS to send. Unless you have an ISP which allows to send "foreign" mail, like mine.
