can you give a specific link? I have found that Safari for Windows works best with CNN. Do you have FF2 and 3 installed in separate folders, and are you using them with their own profile (i.e. no profile sharing)?
I may try to find the specific link, but it would help, if I could do exactly what you try to do.
I got it. I picked any news, and the player popup came up, telling me that there was an error. Turner Media Plugin was needed, and, there was a link to download it. I, already, had it in Safari, but went on, and downloaded the plugin. I left FF3 open, while I went through the install process. I was told to close, and reopen FF3 (i.e. restart it). I went to the program's Plugins folder, and there was a "NPTURNMED.dll" file. Not sure if there is more, but when I selected a Video, it played fine.
I think that it may be enough to copy the NPTURNMED.dll file from the FF2.x plugins folder, and paste it into the FF3.0 folder.
Since 3.0 was installed after the Turner Media plugin was installed, the .dll file would have not been in the folder, and FF3.0 would not play videos, but there was plenty of warning. Not plain not playing.
Just one more note: The file which I downloaded for FF2.x was name wmvfirefoxpluginsetup.exe, while that which I downloaded from 3.0 was named a bit differently, wmvfirefoxpluginsetup3.1f.exe. But, the net effect, i.e. the .dll file had the same version, although the two setup files are distinct.
I have no link, since it came from inside the player popup which you don't see.
Has anyone tried the same plugins used with FF2.x? I tried the same plugins folder of 3.0, with 3.1a1pre nightly, and I got the message that the browser was unsupported. I could find nothing at cnn.com, but will leave a feedback.
I did leave a feedback, but, when I went back trying to play any video, I got a pitch black screen. So, I lost what I got before.
They got another feedback, but I will never know, since they don't request an e-mail address.
Sorry, as a new user to Fire Fox, I didn't realize how complex the ver.9xx Flash Player and Fire Fox (or Flash Player and any browser) is. Both Flash Forums and Fire Fox forums are full of posts with folks trying to iron out the kinks. Doesn't seem, to me, to be any real fix yet. There are plenty of work-a-rounds but, all only last for a short period. The only real conclusion, I have come to, is that the root of the problem lies with Adobe and the Flash Player. Guess I'll be patient and keep looking for something more concrete.
========= To Ramona,
If you would like to remove my post from this thread you are more than welcome to. It serves no useful purpose and only draws attention away from the issue.
I was just like Ramona no popups to telling me what pluggins i need, so i downloaded the npturnmed.dll file from cnn, and i selected a video it played, so i shut/ openned cnn again tried to play a other video no way it won't open.I unistalled flash player pluging i went back to cnn again tried to play a video it was the first time i saw a popup telling me i need flash player to play the video, so i reinstalled flash player tried a video it played i closed that video selected an other one no way same problem black screen.This is my history i didn't found the cure yet.....Thanks
From what I gather, there is Video icon on the upper right, and a Live Video icon, which, usually visible on top of the window/popup which should play the videos. There are Flash videos, and Windows Media Player-based videos, and I don't know, for sure which is which.
I looked at FF3.0, and clicking the Video icon, (below Google), I got a Video, but a black popup when I selected the presumed WMP videos.
Reading about the "nerd" way of installing gave me ideas... I couldn't find the .dll they suggested to look for anywhere.. but since my FF2 works.. I wonder if I can "steal" the appropriate files and transfer them to the right place in FF3?
