    Gaston,
can you give a specific link? I have found that Safari for Windows works best with CNN. Do you have FF2 and 3 installed in separate folders, and are you using them with their own profile (i.e. no profile sharing)?
I may try to find the specific link, but it would help, if I could do exactly what you try to do.

    Gaston,
I got it. I picked any news, and the player popup came up, telling me that there was an error. Turner Media Plugin was needed, and, there was a link to download it. I, already, had it in Safari, but went on, and downloaded the plugin. I left FF3 open, while I went through the install process. I was told to close, and reopen FF3 (i.e. restart it). I went to the program's Plugins folder, and there was a "NPTURNMED.dll" file. Not sure if there is more, but when I selected a Video, it played fine.
I think that it may be enough to copy the NPTURNMED.dll file from the FF2.x plugins folder, and paste it into the FF3.0 folder.
Since 3.0 was installed after the Turner Media plugin was installed, the .dll file would have not been in the folder, and FF3.0 would not play videos, but there was plenty of warning. Not plain not playing.
Just one more note: The file which I downloaded for FF2.x was name wmvfirefoxpluginsetup.exe, while that which I downloaded from 3.0 was named a bit differently, wmvfirefoxpluginsetup3.1f.exe. But, the net effect, i.e. the .dll file had the same version, although the two setup files are distinct.

CNN video doesn't play for me either, and I get the black screen, but no popups telling me I need a plugin.

Do you have a link for the plugin, Westside?

I have no link, since it came from inside the player popup which you don't see.
Has anyone tried the same plugins used with FF2.x? I tried the same plugins folder of 3.0, with 3.1a1pre nightly, and I got the message that the browser was unsupported. I could find nothing at cnn.com, but will leave a feedback.
I did leave a feedback, but, when I went back trying to play any video, I got a pitch black screen. So, I lost what I got before.
They got another feedback, but I will never know, since they don't request an e-mail address.

    Hello all,

Edited out "STUPID " question....

Sorry, as a new user to Fire Fox, I didn't realize how complex the ver.9xx Flash Player and Fire Fox (or Flash Player and any browser) is. Both Flash Forums and Fire Fox forums are full of posts with folks trying to iron out the kinks. Doesn't seem, to me, to be any real fix yet. There are plenty of work-a-rounds but, all only last for a short period. The only real conclusion, I have come to, is that the root of the problem lies with Adobe and the Flash Player. Guess I'll be patient and keep looking for something more concrete.

    To Ramona,
If you would like to remove my post from this thread you are more than welcome to. It serves no useful purpose and only draws attention away from the issue.

At this point, I am completely baffled.

From what I gather, there is Video icon on the upper right, and a Live Video icon, which, usually visible on top of the window/popup which should play the videos. There are Flash videos, and Windows Media Player-based videos, and I don't know, for sure which is which.

I looked at FF3.0, and clicking the Video icon, (below Google), I got a Video, but a black popup when I selected the presumed WMP videos.

I think that I have done plenty. Goodbye, CNN!

I'm using FF3 Portable... the FF3 will not install Flash or shockwave.... I have to revert to my FF2 Portable to run those features.

This tells me its not a matter of what else is installed on the computer (dll's, players etc) thats making the difference, but rather a bug in FF3 itself.

Reading about the "nerd" way of installing gave me ideas... I couldn't find the .dll they suggested to look for anywhere.. but since my FF2 works.. I wonder if I can "steal" the appropriate files and transfer them to the right place in FF3?

    windstrings,

Copying the DLL files from Fx 2 to Fx 3 should work, only if you have the latest Shockwave installed.

I have a Flash Drive, which has Fx 3 Portable installed. I downloaded the flashplayer-win.xpi file, then opened the Fx 3 Add-ons window and did a drag and drop. I had no problems at all... See if this will work for you.

I do not have Portable FF.......
    FF 3.0 xp home

In FF.3.0 - I absolutely could not get cnn.com to work in ONE particular profile.
It worked in other profiles as it should.

After much hacking and dinkin' I gave up and created a NEW profile and it cleared up th problem.

    Perhaps give that a try.

    regards: captjlddavis

    captjlddavis,

WFM on my desktop. How odd that it required a new Profile, as I copied all pertinent files from the original profile to the new? Whatever it takes, I guess.

As you can see above, a new Profile wasn't necessary on my flash drive, and the Flash xpi file worked as it should.

    gaston,

I would try a new Profile in Firefox portable, and see if that works for you.

    Gaston,

Thank you for the feedback, and that it was the IE Tab that was the culprit.

I use the IE Tab also, and in fact it is installed on the new Profile I created, but still allows me to play the CNN videos.
