I'm a little embarrassed to ask because "been there done that" before, But, done forgot how!

I want Seamonkey to default to the INBOX when I click on "Mail & Newsgroups" instead of the Account Set Up Screen.

It's usually always that way but, on occasions it some how gets changed and if I recall correctly there is a button you click on to change that but, now I can't find the button.

Would somebody mind helping a senile old man.

    Thanks, Ray

If you select Edit|Mail and Newsgroups (settings) you get the account set up screen. I put "settings" in parenthesis, because it is the way to set the accounts.
Now if you want the Inbox, the headers in your Inbox will show to the right when you click on the Mail or Window||Mail and Newsgroups.
In other words selecting Mail and Newsgroup Setting is not the way to get to the Inbox. Of course, unless you mean something entirely different.

Westside it appears I wasn't too clear with my question and I don't understand what you are conveying so let's try again.

My question is:.. How do I set the default so when I go to read the incoming mail in Seamonkey and I click on "Windows" - "Mail & Newsgroups ", I want the next screen to have the INBOX highlighted and the mail that is in the INBOX showing on the screen.

To further clarify what I am asking how to do, I put some screen images on my web site and they can be seen at:... http://www.raysmyth.net/mail

Hope this is helps clarify my question and Thanks for your reply, Ray

This time there should be no confusion which was in the original message. Never mind why I was confused.
Anyway, there may be a setting in Preferences (about:config), but I did not spot it. I have eight accounts, in Seamonkey, and my nomenclature is different from the Mozilla people, so it is a nightmare.
I use five different mail clients (three TBs and 2 SNs), so it is a situation like yours, repeated more times, though on the same machine.
In each case the Inbox of the primary (default) account is highlighted. Only the default is fully expanded, i.e. all folders are visible. In my experience the program will remember what done last, so if the Inbox is highlighted, it will return highlighted. As I said only the default mail is expanded, but I forget to contract another account, it will stay that way when I reopen the mail part.
So, try to select the Inbox, before closing the Mail. Then restart SM, and see if it remember how you left, or not. I would contract, also the other accounts, so that they do not take so much room. Finally, for greater security, and to be able to see more messages, select a message|F8 (same as unchecking View|Layout|Message Pane. The the Message Pane opens the message you may end up opening a message which may be better sent to the Junk folder.
If you do not success, i.e. SM is absent-minded, I will have to take a closer look at the Preferences.

    Just a thought:

    Based on your screenshot:
in LEFT panel, right click on "RAY-2008 "
Select "properties "-> Select "Server Settings "
[x] Check for new messages at startup

    HTH

Thanks, Capt ----- That was the fix which I knew darn well was there but couldn't find and I had compared both computer settings twice.

I posted the FIX screen at:... http://www.raysmyth.net/mail

Thanks again, Ray ---------- PS: Thunderbird works same way.

I am glad that it works, because , in my case, I don't see anything which would help. All my eight accounts are set to check new messages at startup, so it cannot be it. I can change the default account (below the list), but that does not make any difference. And, I went further. I selected the Inbox of each account, right click on it, and concentrated on the Retention policy tab. Some accounts had "use server default" checked, and some not, so I can't see that it is that setting. However, if check new messages at startup was not checked, it may have matter.

I stand corrected. If new messages are not checked, I get the same situation as Old Chief. I was taking for granted that new messages were checked.
