    Once a download completes, the file disappears from the download manager. I used to be able to open it or remove it but now it just disappears from the window. Any ideas? I just reinstalled FF 2.0.0.12.

    That is precisely how the download manager works for me. You can change the option for this in Tools\Options, click on Main tab.
    You should look in the folder the files are downloaded into, as they are probably there.
    Do a download, and look at the bottom of the download manager, the folder is listed there, click on it and the folder should open.

    The file does download, but there is no link in the download manager box. After the download completes, the box is empty. It used to stay there so You could open it, or remove it.

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12 ID:2008020121

    Try- Tools->Options->Privacy-> History
    Bottm entry
    "Remember what I have downloaded" [X]

    or about config:
    filter on "download "
    reset "browser.download.manager.retention" to default = 2

    Does that help ?

    Checking "Remember what I have downloaded" did the trick. Thanks very much ;)

    I download the files to the Desktop, moving them, as needed after I am done. There is a section of Options|Tools|Main for Downloads. You can decide to browse to a single location, or you can check to be ask for a location.
    Indeed there is a box in Privacy, but why would I need it?

    Westside,

    Please read the original post......

    Tools->Options->Privacy-> History
    Bottm entry
    "Remember what I have downloaded" [X]

    Pertains to "DOWNLOAD MANAGER" behavior.

    I have read your post, and, I was saying that I know where I download, it is not necessary to be reminded. But, if one is used to open the file from the Download Manager, it is the solution. It is not a case that the downloaded files disappear.
    Interestingly, I have the box checked in Flock, and after a download a popup came up, but the download manager disappereared. But selecting Tools|Options|Downloads the opportunity to open is found. And, the situation is exactly the same with Firefox, which does not have the box checked.
    So, what is the advantage of having the box checked? Download history is selected to be removed in both browser.

    second try....

    I know nothing about Flock.....

    In FF there is no Tools|Options|Downloads to bring up the "Download Manager ".....

    There is a Tools|Download that brings up the download Manager....

    However if you have not selected "Remenber what I've downloaded" - there will be nothing there to open/remove.

    If you have selected to remove download history - then obviously there is nothing there.

    . My mistake. I am so used to quote Options, but Download is another of the many Tools listed.
    In case you missed, what I said in my post, and, it matters nothing if one is unaware of Flock (derived from Firefox), I said that
    .
    I made necessary corrections, but the fact remains that Firefox did not have a check mark, and I was able to see the Download Manager with the options to open/remove. The download location was at the bottom of the popup. In other words, at least as far as I am concerned it does not matter if the box
    is checked or not, in my Firefox. Maybe in other people's Firefox.

    I guess that your FF is different than mine.
    In FF 2.0.0.12, download retentions is set in:
    firefox.js

    pref( "browser.download.manager.retention ", 2);

    as defined in privacy.js

    * browser.download.manager.retention
    * - determines when downloads are automatically removed from the download
    * manager:
    *
    * 0 means remove downloads when they finish downloading
    * 1 means downloads will be removed when the browser quits
    * 2 means never remove downloads

    also in my FF, there is no "location" referenced (viewable) in the Download Manager window. I have to right click the entry and select "Open containing Folder" to locate the downloaded file.

    I am using Noia 2.0 theme.

    Everything seems to work as designed. Perhaps there is a difference in FF 2.0.0.13, I really don't know.

    I appologize if I am adding to the confusion.

    I had the same settings as yours in this path: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref\firefox.js
    I doubt that the Theme would matter. I am using Firehawk 3D, which, in my opinion slightly better looking than the default Firefox theme.
    As forc the download location, if I select Tools|Downloads I see All Files are downloaded to Desktop. I see this exactly the same way in Flock. It has, always been the same way. Honestly, I have recollection of having made any changes in my Tools|Options|Privacy|History. The settings are identical in Flock as they are in Firefox, except that I don't have a check mark in the bottom line in Firefox.
