Password for Thunderbird

I would like to set a password so only I can open Thunderbird. How do I do that? I looked under security, then password, but I am not sure what they mean by a Master Password.
I also have FF on my computer. If I set a Master Password in Thunderbird, will I have to use that to open FF?
Also, when the contacts Sidebar is open, you only have the options of To: or Cc:
I frequently send out jokes Bcc. Is there any way to add that button to the bottom of the sidebar, alongside Cc:
If not, I would suggest to the developers to add it or make it possible to right click Cc: and have it change to Bcc: if there is not enough room to add another button.

You set a Master Password, only, if your computer is used by others, and, you don't want them to access your mail or browser. If you are the only user, stay away from the Master Password.
Honestly, I don't have any idea what a contact sidebar is, but if you select another username, below the one which you have, Bcc is included. It is not a button, per se, but a way to click on the still blank To:, and choose, either cc:, bcc:, and more. I, vaguely, remember that older versions of TB required an add-on, but I don't have such a thing.
Ok, I found a Contact Sidebar add-on, and I found it a nuisance, since it takes so much space. I have so many accounts that I have only one address showing up. However, the properties of the add-on have both cc: and bcc.
If I right click on the address, I can select either cc or bcc. I don't see any button anywhere.

Westside, you did not answer my question. Does setting a PW for Thunderbird require that I must use it to also open FF?
What is the name of the sidebar extension that adds the Bcc button?

Bob,

If you set a Master Password for Thunderbird, it won't have any effect on Firefox.

The extension for Bxx is found here: http://forum.addonsmirror.net/index.php?showtopic=1897

Also take a look at this KB Article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/BCC There's a lot of information in this article about sending Bxx, etc.

I did not understand your question, but Ramona did.

By the way, the extention does not add the Bcc button, which I don't have anyway, but with the extention installed, I can right click on the e-mail address, and select Bcc. If there is a Bcc button, I have not seen it.
Since, I also use the Penelope add-on, which make Thunderbird look like Eudora, it is possible that it is the cause of my not seeing a potential button in View|Customize|Toolbars. Maybe you have such button.
But in any event, the Contact Sidebar 0.7.1 extention does not have a button in its Options, only what they call "advanced popup" options, or something like that (the extention has been uninstalled, so I am not sure). What popup is meant beats me. But, to me the Contact Sidebar is bloat.

Westside,

Yes, the Bcc extension does add the Bcc tab. It adds the tab to the "Contacts" sidebar. This is what Bob was interested in, and not the main Address Book.

The add-on worked perfectly and the Bcc button is now on the side bar.
Thanks again, Ramona.

Ramona,
I remember seeing a Bcc tab or button in a past version, but my 2.0.0.9 did not have such thing. As I said before, if I selected an address from the Contact Sidebar, I could right click, and select Bcc, or whatever.
I was not talking about a Tab in the Address Book.
Unless we are talking about a different Contact Sidebar, what I got was taking a good portion of the left pane, beneath the account list. And, there was nothing when I was into Write mail.
I had surmised that since

I tried your link, and found out that I was using a different add-on . On reading about it, it is possible that it would have accomplished the same thing as your link, using a three-pane window.. I was thrown off by the mention of Contact Sidebar, which I could not see anywhere. Now, clicking on the Contact button in Write Mail, I bring up a sidebar, with all my addresses, and the three buttons.
I had commented in another thread that what is obvious to some/many may be a puzzle to others, and wasted a lot of time.

Westside,
There is a different add-on which adds the Bcc button and also divides the sidebar into 3 sections for using 3 different address books at once. I did not want that, only the Bcc button, which is what I got.

I think that I realized that, didn't I? The add-on which I had gotten does not divide the sidebar. But, what is a sidebar? In my case, I the accounts listed on the left, and the mail headers on the right. And, the sidebar info is appended to the contact panel. I did not read, carefully, about that Contact Sidebar, but, as I admitted it is nothing but bloat. And, I had said:
Quote:

. Now, meaning, with the add-on listed by Ramona.
And, I had :

Finally. I have three builds related to Thunderbird. TB2.0.0.9 which did not have an Add:Bcc, nor obvious way to show the Contact Sidebar. Eudora8.0 which uses a profile formerly used for TB1.5. It has the Contact Sidebar, but no Bcc, and Netscape Messenger 9.0a1 which has the add-on. In all cases, I had to , simply, click on the Contact button to bring up the Sidebar.
Is there a value in having a Contact Sidebar? Yes, if one is used to, no, if like me, is not used too. I can bring up any e-mail address, by just typing one letter, selecting the correct one, and right clicking to select which way it goes. The advantage is to have the entire width of the Message area.
