Windows XP SP2 - Seamonkey 1.1.7 -- As is my practice, I made a new Profile for the year 2008 and boy has it given me problems every since.

In the past, after clicking on Window - Mail and Newsgroups, the screen has always defaulted to the INBOX and the previously received mail was there showing on the screen.

My older profiles of RAY-2005 - RAY-2006 - RAY-2007 as well as all others before them have always defaulted to the INBOX Screen with out me changing anything.

With this new profile of RAY-2008, after clicking on Window - Mail & Newsgroups, it defaults to the name of the first Mail box which gives me the Mail Setup Screen i.e where it has Read Messages - Compose New Message - View settings for this account, etc. etc.

Apparently with the new profile, when I went in and changed all the default settings to my usual desires I clicked on something that is causing this but, I have looked all over and can't find anything set different from my previous profile settings in mail.

I'm sure it is something simple but, so far I've not found the cause.

I've had other major issues with this new Profile which has caused me to un-install and re-install Seamonkey twice and delete and then r-create the NEW RAY-2008 Profile twice but, for now I won't get into those issues until I understand them better.

I would appreciate Ramona or someone telling me how to get the mail screen to default to the INBOX.

    Thanks, Ray

    Ray,

    Open Mail & Newsgroups, then:
Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Server Settings

Put a tick beside these three settings:
Check for new messages at startup
Check for new messages every 10 minutes
    Automatically download new messages

  3. to hide this advert.

Aside the suggestions from Ramona, which should not take care of your problem, but may help. As I read about the problem, I am confused.
    What these
? Are they folders of the same account, or new settings of the same account (since a date is mentioned), or what. I was going to give some suggestions, but I don't understand the set up.
But, if one has more than one account, as I have four, only the top one (default), will be listed, fully expanded, opening its Inbox.
Any other accounts' folder list will stay compacted, so you have to click on the + to the right of the account name.

    Westside,

What I suggested will fix Ray's Mail problem:

Ray said that he will ask about the other problems he's having with the Profile at another time. His first priority was to fix the Mail problem.

Well, I hope that it works. I don't, obviously, understand what is the problem. Do you read what I do, or not. New profile, or new account, or what?
I was not addressing any of his other problems, because he did not mention them.

Big THANKS to Ramona. I did as she advised by placing a check in the box next to "Check for new mail at start up" under the Server Settings and that fixed my problem.

To help clear up Westside's confusion -- Let me say that:.. I desire to keep all my old e-mail due to genealogy mailings and other personal reasons.

To keep the messages from piling up in a lot of different folders under one profile name, I create a brand new Seamonkey Profile at the end of each and every year.

Therefore, to know which year of messages I want to go back and review, the name of the profile includes the year.

Accordingly, last years Seamonkey Profile was named RAY-2007 and this years complete brand new Seamonkey Profile is named RAY-2008.

I hope that clears up any confusion and I do appreciate Westsides contribution to this forum.

Thanks again to Ramona for fixing my little problem.

I will start a new thread relative to my other problems mentioned at the start of this thread.

    Ray,

Ray, I was confused because your method, though flawless, is unnecessary.
I would be more comfortable to be able to see all my mail in a single profile.
How to do this? Go to the hard drive (Windows Explorer), and right click|rename the Inbox, let's say RAY-2007. Then delete the Inbox.msf. When you back into your mail, you will find a RAY-2007 folder with last year's mail, and a brand new Inbox with the old settings. A new Inbox.msf file will be created, as well as a RAY-2007.msf header file, so that you can get to your old mail.
Similar treatment of the previous years (you can Copy your older Inbox files, if you want to keep separate profiles, rename to RAY-2004, etc, and Paste into the new account).
To each his own, but to me, separate profiles seem awkward.
