No music on web site

A friend directed me to a web site which included a song being sung by the Statler Brothers.

I could hear nothing after several tries but others had no problem at all. I contacted the web site to see if they used a specific plug-in and they thought it was Media Player.

I think I have all the usual plug-ins so I am wondering if it is my browser. (Firefox)

I will be gone several days so may not get back to check things out.

Thanks.

Pat,

What is the link for the web page? It will make it easier to see what the problem is, if we can take a look at the page source.

Thanks!

Ramona,

I am out of town right now and don't have the site info. I will send it when I get home.

Sorry I left home. It was in the 70's and here in Illinois it is cold and wet.

Happy Thanksgiving.

That's why I prefer the Canadian Thanksgiving, which is , more reasonably, in October! Try to enjoy yourself, although the snow cannot be far behind.

Here is the link that I can not hear any music on. Others that I've sent it to can hear music.

http://okangel.250free.com/ThereAManInHere.html

The only program that I don't use is RealPlayer. Hate it.

Thanks.

My System

Pat,

When looking at the View | Page Source, this is the code that I wanted to see:
Code:
<bgsound src="http://www.pcdon.com/-StatlerBrothers-TheresaManinHere.wav"autostart="true" loop="2">
Netscape/Mozilla does not recognize the "bgsound src" code. It is only recognized by IE. I don't hear the music on the referenced page either...

I would complain to the web page author.

I listening to the sound, after having clicked on the link. I have the MediaPlayerConnectivity add-on. It opens the default JetAudio, but does not play. But, when I change the default for .wav to Windows Media Player, it plays, but outside the page. Of course, as expected, the link plays internally, if I selected open it in IE Tab .And, it repeats playing.
As a conclusion, I must confirm what Ramona said, but it is not enough to stop me.
Firefox2.0.0.9 and clone Navigator9.0.0.3 behave alike.

I thought the MediaPlayer Connectivity add-on was for video?

I changed my .wav preference from QuickTime to Windows Media Player and still no dice. I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.9 to try to listen. I believe this is what Pat is using?

The only way I hear the .wav file is to copy the URL from the page source:
http://www.pcdon.com/-StatlerBrother...aManinHere.wav

If you look at the configuration of the add-on, you will see that it can be selected to be used to play .mp3, and .pls files. In fact, I can't think of any time that I used it for videos. It works for me. And, with IE Tab there is no difference from what is seen in IE.
I, originally, used Navigator9, which is a clone of Firefox2.0.0.9, as well as Seamonkey1.1.6.

Sorry that it took so long for me to get back with you folks but I guess I now have another question.

After reading your messages I opened that link with IE and I heard the audio very well.

So this is now my question. What is it with Firefox and IE that would be different?

It seems mighty strange that I can heard everything as it was supposed to be heard but only in IE.

Thanks and hope you all had a nice holiday.

Firefox, or any Mozilla application, and Opera adhere strictly to the The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Standard coding. MS does not adhere to these standards, hence sloppy coding which is not cross browser compliant.

W3C

Short for World Wide Web Consortium, an international consortium of companies involved with the Internet and the Web. The W3C was founded in 1994 by Tim Berners-Lee, the original architect of the World Wide Web. The organization's purpose is to develop open standards so that the Web evolves in a single direction rather than being splintered among competing factions.

Thanks Ramona.

I guess from now on I'll have to remember to use IE when I have sound problems on the various web sites.

Pat ...

I couldn't hear the sound using FF 2.0.0.9 either, but there's no need to leave FF to use IE. As Westside suggested, just use the IE Tab extension ... use FF's "Customize" feature to place the IE Tab icon on your FF toolbar. It works perfectly.

Thanks. I guess, as usual, I didn't understand.

I'll give it a try and will be back if I get it messed up.

I confirm that it works with either extention, as I outlined above.
In summary with MediaPlayerConnectivity, the music will be played externally, in Windows Media Player. If you install, and setup IE Tab, the IE engine will used, but, you will, still, be in Firefox.
