    Hello,
Does anyone know how to transfer stored passwords from an old laptop using XP to a new laptop using Vista without using a transfer cable and using a USB flash drive?
Also, what file(s) would need to be copied to the flash drive and where would I put those stored password files in Vista, in my new laptop so they would work?
FYI - the stored passwords are in Netscape on old laptop and I am using SeaMonkey on the new laptop.
    Thanks
    Melissa

I've moved your thread to the Netscape/Mozilla forum which is the more appropriate forum for your question.

    Melissa,
I do all my "transfers" by using files/folders copied to CDs. Two files, found in the Profile .slt folder are needed. One is xxxxxx.s (there is a .w file for form dataa), and the key3.db file.
I, actually, save my entire folder to a CD. But, I am not as immoderate as some people who save everything since Julius Caesar's days. I can fit a number of profiles on one CD.
Anyway, I got Seamonkey going a couple of weeks ago, and, although I did this within the same hard drive, I used the same technique, and my Seamonkey has the NS7.2 passwords.

    Hello,
Thank you for the names of the files needed to transfer passwords from one latop using XP and Netscape to a new laptop using Vista and SeaMonkey! It worked beautifully! It did take me some time though, I'm not a computer wiz but can figure things out and it then takes me a lot of time!
    I didn't realize 2 things at first -
    1. I needed to rename the old files in XP to the same name of the new files already existing in Vista then copy and replace them. And............
    2. That I had to restart the computer after doing #1 to have the saved passwords I just transferred show up.

After doing the restart, all password info I wanted to be in the new laptop from the old one were there!!!!!

    THANKS AGAIN!
This forum has been VERY helpful to me as I have been setting up my new laptop and want to do it "the right way" so I do not loose any files again, have problems with Norton (now using AVG) and have all the programs and files I had in the old laptop that I need in the new laptop!
I hope there comes a day I can repay the favors and help someone else with questions but as I said before, I'm not a real experienced computer person, but can find my way through and have learned a lot with this experience!
I'm very grateful there's a forum like this available!
    Melissa

Glad that it worked. I am never sure what I take for granted, and so do not give all the necessary info.
By the way, renaming is essential, because if you copy an Inbox file, it will replace a file with the same name. IF you move fast enough, you don't need to rename, but it is a good idea to do it, because doing that discourages you from cramming all mail in a single, with disastrous consequence.
