After changing the theme in a windows xp Firefox browser I seem to be stuck with a hard to read red color highlight text color.
It may of been coincidental in time to the theme change.
If I turn off "let page pick colors it is gone.
How can i remove or change the red highlight color ?

Do you see only red, and have no choice in your Tools|Options|Content|Colors?
If this is the case, you have a problem caused by your theme.

    Open new FF tab.
    Type:
    about: config
    In "Filter" bar paste:
    ui. textSelectBackground
(This setting determines the background color to use for text selections as a hex code or named color. If this preference is not set, the OS's value is used.)
If the above key doesn't exist (most likely), then right click on any empty space in "about:config" window, click New>String, and paste ui. textSelectBackground into a pop-up window bar ( "Enter the preference name "). Click OK.

New op-up window opens: "Enter string value ".
Here you enter a hex value of the color of your choice for background.
Hex values for colors are listed here:
    http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_colors.asp
    Click OK.

You'll repeat very same steps for creating, and setting up a key responsible for highlighted text color. The key is:
    ui. textSelectForeground

Pick up colors, which will play well with your skin.

    You are done.
