I am using Tbird 2.0.0.6. Too often I cannot get my new email because when I click on "Get Mail" the following message comes up. "ALERT -This folder is being processed. Please wait until processing is complete to get messages. "

    1. What does folder being processed mean?
    2. Why does it just sit there for 5 -10 minutes with nothing happening but when I try to get mail the same alert pops up again and again?

    Thanks for the help.

Just guessing here, but may be that TB is trying to compact the folders. Go to Tools>Options>Advanced>Network & Disk Space tab and uncheck the box under Disk Space next to "Compact folders etc..... "

You can always compact the folders manually from the File>Compact Folders menu.

You should have posted this in the Mozilla Forum for more exposure. Perhaps a moderater will move.

Edit2: Well speak of the devil, the mod has already moved the post.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think that's the problem as the box is unchecked and I do compact manually although maybe not enough. Somewhere I thought there was a way that folders get compacted automatically like when I exit Tbird but maybe i'm dreaming.

    lgbest,

In addition to compacting folders, delete all the msf files in your Mail Account Folder to address the "Processing Folders" error.

In Tools | Options | Advanced
    Scroll down to: Disk Space
Enable the setting, and then change the KB to a low number so folders will be compacted automatically.

I've had similar problem, and deleting just "index.msf" file (which is used the most, so prone to corruption), helped.

You meant Inbox.msf, did you not?

It never happened to me, but it is a common problem. I have a feeling that it is a maintenance problem. I keep my folders lean and mean, and I manually compact them, at least, twice each day. But, I don't know if that is the answer.

    Oooops!!! I sure did:eek:

I keep my mail folders nice, and clean, too. I barely finish my day with anything in my Inbox, and I even have them set to be compacted automatically (whenever compacting will save more, then 100kB), and it still happened to me. In case of some messages, I was steering at "Loading message ", or "Moving 1 message to Trash" for 20-30 sec. After rebuilding "Inbox.msf ", it stopped.

I guess my guess was incorrect. My Inboxes (my wife and I have five accounts) never exceed 3MB, and they are compacted as I exit.

All - deleting the .msf folders did help. After doing that and also changing the compact folders option to a low KB number at Ramona's suggestion, it seems to have taken care of the problem. Also, for some reason a window popped up asking if I wanted TB to automatically compact folders. I said yes. How did that happen? Maybe when I changed the compact folders option?

    Thanks for the help.

    Yes.
However, I don't use that method. I use the Xpunge extention .
I can get a single button, called multi xpunge to dump my trash and compact all folders, whenever I want. And, with nine total accounts, I don't have to go to each individual one to set up Disk Space. I "trined" myself to do the operation at least twice each day. It is so easy.

This is from "mozillaZine" article (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_Tips_:_Compacting_Folders
You can read more about compacting there.

    lgbest,

The extension is for Thunderbird, not Firefox. So what you need to do, is:

    On the Xpunge site
Right click the "Installer" green tab
    Select: Save Link As
This will save the xpunge__45_0.2.3__45_tb.xpi file to your HDD

    Open Thunderbird
    Click on Tools | Add-ons

    Next:
Open Windows Explorer and browse to the location of the saved xpunge__45_0.2.3__45_tb.xpi file

Drag the xpunge__45_0.2.3__45_tb.xpi file to the open Add-ons Window in Thunderbird

The extension will be installed. You will have to restart Thunderbird for the install to be completed.

...or, while in Thunderbird, go Tools>Add-ons, click on Install button, and navigate to "xpunge__45_0.2.3__45_tb.xpi" location...
    ...right?

Right, if you don't want to save the file for posterity...

I am using a lot of "nightlies" and similar programs, so I save all .xpi files in a folder called "extentions ", on my Desktop, so I can do similar operations with my eyes closed. I guess that I am taking these things for granted.
