Latest Firefox vs Earthlink web mail address book in forwarding mail.

When I want to forward a message using Earthlink web mail using Firefox and I click on email addresses a mozilla window pops up telling me that I have requested an encripted page and that it is recognized. When I click ok, It brings up a new earthlink login window, which tells me that my session has expired and that I need to login again, then it lets me bring up the address book and lets me insert the chosed addresses to the forwarded message, which is in my original webmail window and is still active and has not expired. This does not happen using Internet Explorer, when I am forwarding my messages and I click on email addresses it come straight up. Also, this was not happening until I upgraded to the latest Firefox. To add to the confusion, the problem does not happen when I forward a message thru web mail on my XP computer at work using the latest Firefox, only when I use my Windows Vista Home Premium at home and only in Firefox, not in IE. Is this a Firefox problem, a Vista Problem or both. Was not happening until the most recent version of Firefox.

Marvin,

I really can't say whether or not it is a Vista problem, never having used that OS. You are the first person to post this problem here, but doesn't necessarily mean that no one else has encountered the problem.

In Options, disable all options here:
Tools | Options | Security
Scroll down to "Warning Messages"
Click on the "Settings" tab, and disable all options, and especially the first one

This may or may not help...

Firefox vs Earthlink web mail addresses

Ramona,

Suggestion did not work. Don't have this problem using IE. Also, at work I have XP, and using Firefox latest and Earthlink Web Mail do not have this problem. It started after the last two updates to Firefox. So, it must be a Vista vs Firefox vs Earthlink Web Mail Problem. When I click on addresses in Web Mail while in Firefox, I get a message that my earthlink session has expired and to re-login and when I do it brings me to the addresses , lets me pick the addresses I want and puts them into my message to forward, which is in the web mail session that it says has expired, and it lets me forward the message. Strangest think in all of my years of computer usage.

Marv,

On your home PC, did you do the incremental/auto-update update for Firefox, or a clean install of 2.0.0.6?

Ramona,

I have the auto update of Firefox. Do you think a clean install might solve the problem?

Marv,

Your problem is most puzzling, and I can't say positively that a clean install will solve the problem, but it's something that I think you should try.

Uninstall using Add/Remove
Delete the Mozilla Firefox folder located here:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
Save your plugins folder before deleting the folder and replace the new plugins folder with this one.

Reboot the PC, and then install the full version of Firefox 2.0.0.6.

Let us know if this helps.

Hi Ramona,

I uninstalled Firefox, deleted the folder, rebooted, installed Firefox from a current download, and unfortunately still have the problem. What is interesting is that if I type in the first few letters of my individual addresses, it brings them up and installs them in the forwarded message without making me re login to Earthlink web mail. Only when I click the addresses does it bring up the session expired window. Something in Earthlink web mail is not working with Firefox and only in Windows Vista.

Ramona,

I checked the properties of the addresses link in my web mail and it refers to Java script, not sure what it means, but when I upgraded Firefox for the last two updates I got a message that it was incompatible with my java script, and searched for a fix and got message that there was no fix at this time. I have installed the latest Sun Java and when I bring up the test in Firefox it says that I have the latest version of Java. Could this have something to do with Java and Firefox and Vista?

Marv,

I think it has to do with the Earthlink Webmail Portal. Have you emailed the site with the issues you're having? Or, if there is a chat feature, use that instead, and get some live help.

The Java error is a Sun issue and not Firefox: Java No Longer Supported?

Found a couple of things at the Earthlink Webmail Support site:

Could this be your problem:

A few users report that each time they log in to Web Mail, they are presented with the First Time User screen asking for their name, and that this never gets saved and comes back next time.

A temporary solution for this problem is:
After you have completed the login and are in Web Mail, click Preferences / Web Mail Options and scroll to the bottom to the setting for "Your From Name". Make sure that is filled in with the name you want to appear in your messages, and then click the Save button.

That should save your name and prevent the First Time User screen from coming back. In the near future we will fix the bug where the name sometimes isn't being saved from that screen.

If you find that the solution described here does not work, please report it.

Ramona,

Thanks for the info, especially about Java vs Firefox. I thought Java was still working in Firefox and you confirmed it. Yes, I originally went to Earthlink chat and when I told them there was no problem in Internet Explorer then they said it must be a Firefox problem, in spite to the fact that there is no problem with Earthlink web mail using Firefox at work with XP. I also posted to the earthlink web mail blog and still have not received an answer to my reply to their first question about my operating system. I will check out the info about first time logins, but do not think it is the problem.

Thanks,
