    Hi All,

This morning I had an automatic Firefox update. Since that time I have been unable to get on the internet using Firefox. Internet Explorer, which I rarely use, is working just fine. Does anyone suffer this same problem or have a solution. Thank you.

Edit: Lost is probably the wrong word here. I just can't connect to the internet with Firefox.

would never allow an automatic update to proceed. I did not have one available, but I downloaded the entire .exe file, and updated that way. No problem.
I, always, rename the shortcut, so I had two shortcuts on my desktop. One was the old, and useless Firefox2.0.0.4, and another called Mozilla Firefox. I, immediately, renamed it to Firefox2.0.0.5.
Look in the add/remove. Do you have a Mozilla Firefox2.0.0.5 entry, or what?

    Westside,

Re: your last sentence, in the Add or Remove programs I have 2.0.0.5. Are you implying removing it and installing 2.0.0.5 from the Mozilla site? Thank you.

As a matter of personal preference, I agree with Westside about not allowing the updates. I also download the new exe file, remove the old version, and then install the new version. Never once had a problem going this route.

    derfsch,

I follow the same routine as Westside and MinnesotaMike. I always do a clean install, and download the full version from the Internet. Sometimes the auto-update will foul up Add/Remove, and you wind up uninstalling the current version.

In Tools | Options | Security
Ensure that you have enabled: Warn me when sites try to install add-ons

With only one profile running, along with current backups (image and data / redundant on both types) I'm allowed to play footloose. But since the internal updater has become available, I've used it with out any problems. About the only time I would be shy would be major version updates, example when we come up to FF 3.0.

I would suggest checking your firewall, possible needs a nudge. I run Kerio Pro / current and it has no problem tracking "replacing application" prompt / acknowledgment.

I, actually, installed on top of 2.0.0.4. I don't like the autoupdater, mainly, because it does when it is good and ready, and not when I am.
I am using Sygate Firewall, and as soon as I tried to open FF2.0.0.5, I got a popup asking if I wanted to allow it. Sygate does this for any installed program or programs which I work from an unzipped file.
If your firewall has no info about 2.0.0.5, I would uninstall it, and then reinstall it from the full version.
Come to think, I would have problems with the Firewall, if it does not know what's going on.

    derfsch,

DennisL's suggestion to check the Firewall is your best bet. If no joy, then temporarily disable the AntiVirus and see if that will allow you to connect.

Also, from MozillaZine KB: All Programs Are Having Problems
There is more information in the Article...

    Hi All,

    Westside and MinnasotaMike
I removed Firefox 2.0.0.5 using the Add or Remove program. I cleaned the registry of any reference to FF. and then reinstalled FF 2.0.0.5. Same results, could not connect to the internet. See Below.

    Dennis L and Ramona
Apparently the problem is related to the firewall. I disconnected it and still could not connect. However when I went into the firewall and modified it to accept Mozilla Firefox (FF had been allowed before) the internet connection went through.

My thanks to each of you for taking the time to consider this problem and providing a solution. This reply is being done with Firefox 2.0.0.5.

Stubborn firewall, and, pretty inept, as well.
