What does the Authenticated Sessions refer to when you clear your Private Data?

Does this have anything to do with the drop down list that appears when you attempt to log on to a site? I've entered incorrect names in error when trying to log on to different sites and I would like to clear those lists out totally.

    Thanks.

Does this help?. But if you entered a password and saved it, you can delete the password. As for cookies which are created when you log in, you may be able to remove them by deleting the cookies. I don't know of a drop down which you refer to, although it may exist at some sites.

    Westside,

No that really didn't help. I know how to clear the authenticated sessions. I simply wondered WHAT they were. Secure sites?

I was going to post my question there but they wanted too much personal info from me just to get a simple answer.

The other issue may very well be connected to Password Manager. I didn't think it was but I just checked on the problem with this site. When I go to log in I'm given two ID options. When I type just the first letter of my ID I would get a drop down box with two options. I found two entries in Password Manager and deleted one. I will check it out when it comes up on other sites. I did skim through Password Manager and didn't see any other duplicates for a site.

    Thanks.

You want a definition? Try this .
But it may not be enough to fit your specific case.
Basically sessions are authenticated on the basis of cookies and passwords.
There is not much that you can do about cookies, other than delete them, if you don't want them (yes, you can take exceptions, but the problem is not there). But, with passwords it is different, and you are correct about the password manager, if you stored them, bring up the password manager (remember passwords)|view passwords. That will allow you to view what you stored. I don't like to store password for sites which involve money.

Okay, some of it is starting to sink in. Of course a lot of the info you provided with the link was way over my head.

So, when I clear the Authenticated Sessions and not the Passwords, I'm simply clearing some of the cookies?

I guess maybe that's why I have log in every time I log onto this board?

Simply stated: Authentication is the process of determining whether someone is, in fact, who they have declared to be. In private and public computer networks (including the Internet), authentication is most commonly done through the use of logon passwords.

The drop down list is usually associated with multiple logins, i.e., an incorrect login, or a forgotten registration.... So if the site uses the password for authentication, then yes, it would affect the drop down list.

This site, in particular, uses a session cookie, in addition to the login. If you elect to delete cookies, then you must login for each session.

You can clear the incorrect names in Password Manager, as you now know. This should eliminate the drop down menu for user names/passwords.

    Ramona,

Thanks so much. It takes a while but what you just explained is perfect for an
dense headed person such as I.

Right now I am trying to connect to DSL and wouldn't you know. There is a problem in the "field" and ATT has to order parts. Figures that if there is a problem it will effect me.

    Thanks again.

    Pat,

You're definitely not dense, and some of the computer language is mind bending.

As for your DSL, considering the area where you live, I would strongly urge you to consider Charter cable instead. Feel free to PM considering this issue....

Actually, DSL is the only thing I've ever contemplated. I don't have and have never had cable TV. Don't have time for regular TV let alone all the junk cable provides. Also, Charter customer service doesn't enjoy a good reputation around here.

Right now there are only three folks in my area( 2 guys in St. Louis and me) who that know when a person subscribes to DSL, a field tech has to go out and add something at a "box" somewhere in my area. This includes sales people at local electonic stores and all the AT&T customer service reps. Unbelievable.

Today I'm still trying to figure out what the telephone equipment box looks like. We have more green boxes in the neighborhood than anyplace I've ever seen.
The last rep told me they had received at least 300 calls yesterday concerning this issue. I would think they wouldn't sell a service if they couldn't allow folks to be able to install it. So much for big business.

    I hope it's worth the wait. <G>
